Job summary

Hong Kong Life Insurance Limited is seeking an experienced life insurance underwriting leader to assess high-risk applications, supervise junior underwriters, and drive performance reviews and career development. The role focuses on optimizing underwriting workflows, reducing pending applications, and increasing straight-through processing while ensuring compliance with AML, AEOI, FATCA, and local regulations.

Strong bilingual communication is essential.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in finance, business, insurance, or actuarial science.
Typically 5 to 10+ years experience in life insurance underwriting.
Minimum of 2-5 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
Deep knowledge of medical terminology, financial underwriting, reinsurance treaties, and regulatory requirements (such as AML, AEOI and FATCA).
Excellent communications skills in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

Responsibilities

Assess risks and make decisions to evaluate and approve complex or high-risk life and medical insurance applications.
Supervise, train, and mentor junior underwriters.
Conduct performance reviews, manage case audits, and drive career development.
Optimize the underwriting workflow and minimize pending application ratios.
Improve straight-through processing (STP) rates.
Ensure all underwriting decisions adhere to internal risk appetites, local regulations, and reinsurance guidelines.
Provide underwriting insights for new product launches.
Update internal validation rules to minimize manual tasks.
Communicate with and provide support to relevant stakeholders and frontline parties.
