Job summary

Morgan Stanley Asia Limited is seeking an experienced, hands-on lead engineer in Hong Kong to own a defined work area across Securities Lending technology and platform renovation. You will partner with Trading, Operations and Product to analyze requirements, design solutions and deliver changes from planning through production.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on server-side development in Java or Scala.
• Strong track record of end-to-end software delivery and technical ownership of a substantial application or programme.
• Experience with distributed systems, messaging, data consistency and diagnosing complex application behaviour.
• Strong analytical skills to understand business workflows and data, and break problems into deliverable changes.
• Experience with trading, financing, lifecycle or similar transaction-processing systems and Securities Lending knowledge.
• Experience delivering changes safely into production, including automated testing and release planning.
• Evidence of guiding other engineers and coordinating delivery with global teams; people-management experience is helpful but not required.
• Clear written and spoken English to communicate requirements, options and risks to stakeholders.

We build and operate platformssupporting short-sale locates and availability, inventory management, stock borrowing and lending,and the trade lifecycle. Our global teams work with Trading, Operations, Product and otherTechnology teams to deliver reliable services and controlled business change.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on lead engineer in Hong Kong to own an assignedprogramme or defined work area across Stockloan Trading, lifecycle management and platformrenovation. You will work directly with the Trading Desk and Operations to analyse requirements,design solutions and deliver changes from planning through production.

You will make day‑to‑day technical and delivery decisions with substantial autonomy, guideengineers and contribute to broader architecture discussions. Senior technical leaders will provideguidance on the most complex cross‑platform judgements and strategic priorities.

What you will do

Own delivery of an assigned programme or work area, including scope, plans, dependencies,quality and production readiness within agreed business and Technology priorities.

Work with Trading, Operations and Product to analyse trading and lifecycle workflows, clarifyrequirements, identify exceptions and agree acceptance criteria.

Design and implement services for trade capture, inventory and position flows, returns, recalls, re‑rates or related lifecycle processing and integration.

Lead a defined renovation workstream, contributing to phased migration, interface design,reconciliation and compatibility with existing systems and controls.

Make well‑reasoned engineering decisions within agreed architecture; seek guidance on complextrade‑offs or changes affecting other programmes and teams.

Guide engineers through implementation and code review, share domain knowledge andcoordinate work within the delivery area. Where assigned, manage and develop staffin that area.

Maintain automated tests, secure coding, observability, release and recovery practices;investigate production issues and deliver sustainable fixes.

Communicate regularly with product and technical leads, explain solution options, identifyimprovements and escape dependencies or risks early.

What you will bring

At least 7 years of experiencesand strong hands‑on server‑side development in Java or Scala, including service design, integration, relational databases, SQL and Unix/Linux.

A strong track record of end‑to‑end software delivery and technical ownership of a substantial application, programme or defined workstream.

Practical experience with distributed systems, messaging, data consistency and diagnosing complex application behaviour.

Strong analytical skills: understand business workflows and data, break problems into deliverable changes and assess the consequences of design choices.

Experience working with business users on trading, financing, lifecycle or comparable transaction‑processing systems, with the ability to build detailed Securities Lending knowledge.

Experience delivering changes safely into production, including automated testing, code review, release planning, monitoring and incident resolution.

Evidence of guiding other engineers and coordinating delivery with global teams; formal people‑management experience is helpful but not required.

Clear written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate requirements, solution options and delivery risks to business and Technology stakeholders.

A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience that would be valuable

Securities Lending or Prime Brokerage, including trade capture, inventory, collateral, settlement interfaces or other lifecycle workflows.

Hands‑on delivery within platform renovation or legacy migration programmes, including data reconciliation and phased adoption.

Modern Java frameworks, event‑driven services, streaming technologies, CI/CD and cloud‑ready engineering.

Responsible use of approved AI‑assisted development tools, with independent validation, testing, code review and protection of confidential information.
