Job summary

Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong is seeking an experienced software engineer to deliver features for Stock loan trading, lifecycle management and platform renovation. You will combine hands-on development with analysis of business workflows, taking ownership of work from requirements clarification through testing and production release.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong server-side programming skills in Java or Scala with an understanding of software design and data structures.
• Practical SQL and relational database skills; comfortable with Unix/Linux and service interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of assigned features and components; plan implementation steps and deliver tested, maintainable software against requirements.
• Analyse requirements and data with business analysts, product partners, and engineers; clarify workflow details with Trading and Operations users.
• Develop server-side services and integrations supporting trade capture, inventory updates, returns, recalls or other lifecycle functions.
• Contribute to platform renovation by implementing new components and validating behaviour against existing systems.
• Write automated tests, perform code reviews and use data checks to verify correctness including exceptions and failure scenarios.
• Support controlled releases and production troubleshooting; investigate root causes and implement fixes with guidance for high-risk changes.
• Keep teammates informed through progress updates, technical summaries and documentation; share knowledge with less-experienced colleagues.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced software engineer in Hong Kong to deliver features and components for Stock loan Trading, lifecycle management and platform renovation. You will combine hands‑on development with analysis of business workflows, taking ownership of assigned work from requirements clarification through testing and production release.

This is an experienced individual‑contributor role. You will use independent judgement and manage your deliverables without routine supervision, working within agreed designs and priorities. Technical leads will help resolve unfamiliar domain questions and broader architectural decisions.

What You Will Do

• Take ownership of assigned features and components, plan implementation steps and deliver tested, maintainable software against agreed requirements.
• Analyse requirements and data with business analysts, product partners and engineers; clarify workflow details with Trading and Operations users as needed.
• Develop server‑side services and integrations supporting trade capture, inventory updates, returns, recalls or other lifecycle functions.
• Contribute to platform renovation by implementing new components, adapting interfaces and validating behaviour against existing systems.
• Apply sound engineering judgement within agreed architecture; identify dependencies and raise questions or risks early when scope or system‑wide impacts are unclear.
• Write automated tests, perform code reviews and use data checks and reconciliation to verify correctness, including exceptions and failure scenarios.
• Support controlled releases and production troubleshooting, investigate root causes and implement fixes with appropriate guidance for high‑risk changes.
• Keep teammates and leads informed through clear progress updates, technical summaries and documentation; share knowledge and support less‑experienced colleagues.

What You Will Bring

• Professional experience delivering production software, with evidence of independently completing substantial features or complex project tasks.
• Strong server‑side programming skills in Java or Scala and a sound understanding of software design, data structures, algorithms and maintainable code.
• Practical SQL and relational database skills, familiarity with Unix/Linux, and an understanding of service interfaces and application integration.
• Experience with automated testing, version control, code review and disciplined software delivery.
• Good analytical and debugging skills: follow data and event flows, investigate unexpected behaviour and translate findings into practical fixes.
• The ability to understand the business context of your work and a strong interest in learning Securities Lending, trading and lifecycle processes.
• Clear written and spoken English and an ability to work effectively in a distributed, multi‑person team, explaining progress, questions and technical findings.
• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience That Would Be Valuable

• Financial services, Securities Lending, Prime Brokerage or other transaction‑processing applications. Prior Securities Lending experience is not essential.
• Messaging, event‑driven systems, modern Java frameworks or distributed application troubleshooting.
• Application renovation, integration testing, data reconciliation, CI/CD or production monitoring.
• Responsible use of approved AI‑assisted development tools, with independent validation, testing, code review and protection of confidential information.
