Job summary

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) seeks a lead specialist to drive the strategic and responsible use of AI in teaching and learning across the University.

Reporting to the Director of the Center for Education Innovation, the appointee will shape and implement university-wide AI-enabled solutions, align them with IT policies, and collaborate with academic units to translate pedagogical priorities into scalable technology.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate degree in a relevant field.
• Significant post-qualification experience in design and deployment of AI/ML systems.
• Hands-on expertise in AI system architecture and deployment practices.
• Strong programming experience in Python and AI frameworks.
• Experience with LMS, cloud environments, APIs and system integration.
• Understanding of higher education teaching and learning contexts.
• Knowledge of responsible AI practices including ethics, privacy, bias, transparency.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of a university-wide AI architecture for teaching and learning, including AI-enabled assessment and learning analytics.
• Evaluate and integrate AI tools into the University’s teaching and learning ecosystem.
• Develop standards, workflows and governance for secure, scalable AI use in academia.
• Collaborate with CEI and units to translate priorities into practical technical solutions.
• Support pilot projects and assess effectiveness using evidence-based methods.
• Advise on responsible AI use, privacy, transparency and governance.
• Provide technical guidance to faculty on AI tool adoption for course design.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of CEI.
