Our client, a leading digital banking institution in Hong Kong, seeking a Backend Engineer to join its technology team.

This is an exciting opportunity to build and scale modern digital banking platforms using cloud-native technologies, microservices, and event-driven architectures. You will work in a high-performing engineering environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop secure, scalable, and reliable backend services that support innovative digital banking experiences.

You will be involved in the full software development lifecycle, from design and development through deployment, monitoring, and production support, with a strong focus on engineering excellence, automation, and continuous delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Backend Development:Develop, maintain, and enhance backend services using Java or Kotlin within a cloud-native microservices environment.

API Development:Build and maintain RESTful APIs and event-driven services, ensuring reliability, performance, and compatibility.

Microservices & Databases:Work with microservices, distributed systems, event streams, and relational databases to support business applications.

Cloud & Infrastructure:Deploy and support backend applications on AWS or similar cloud platforms using Docker, Kubernetes, or other container technologies.

CI/CD & Automation:Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes to improve development and release efficiency.

Testing & Code Quality:Write clean, maintainable code and develop unit and integration tests to ensure application quality and reliability.

Production Support:Monitor backend services, troubleshoot technical issues, and participate in incident resolution and service improvements.

Team Collaboration:Work closely with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders in an Agile environment to deliver features and enhancements.

AI-Assisted Development:Explore and use AI-assisted coding tools to improve development productivity and code quality.

Requirements:

3–6 years of hands-on software development experience, preferably in backend engineering using Java or Kotlin.

Good understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven architecture.

Experience working with relational databases and writing SQL queries.

Familiarity with automated testing, including unit and integration testing.

Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, Git, and modern software development practices.

Hands-on experience or working knowledge of AWS or other cloud platforms.

Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or containerised application environments.

Willingness to participate in production support, troubleshooting, and incident resolution.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools is an advantage.
