Job summary

Nex seeks a Hardware Prototype Engineer (Part-time Contract) in Hong Kong to build and refine electronics and enclosures with our Core Technology team. This hands-on role focuses on turning concepts into reliable, usable prototypes, not mass production hardware.

You work with firmware/software teams to integrate components, test interfaces, and iterate quickly while documenting designs and limitations. On-site, two-month engagement in Hong Kong.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience building working electronic prototypes, incl. circuit design, board bring-up, soldering, rework and debugging.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical CAD and rapid enclosure prototyping, e.g. 3D printing.
• Experience integrating microcontrollers, sensors, wireless modules, and battery-powered electronics.
• Confidence using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analysers, and other practical debugging tools.
• Ability to work independently, deliver within a short iteration cycle and balance speed with discipline.
• Clear communication and documentation skills, including explaining issues to software engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design and modify circuits and PCBs; select and integrate components.
• Create mechanical CAD, 3D-printed enclosures, and mounting solutions.
• Assemble, bring up, rework, and debug prototypes using lab measurements.
• Collaborate on firmware/software integration; resolve interface and power issues.
• Iterate quickly from test findings to reliable prototype units.
• Document schematics, PCB files, BOMs, CAD, and assembly instructions.
