Job summary

Amazon Data Services Hong Kong Limited is seeking a Data Center Facilities Manager to oversee day-to-day operations, ensure safety, and coordinate with Colocation providers across critical systems such as power, cooling, and infrastructure. You will lead on-site teams, manage incidents, and drive process improvements in a fast-paced data center environment.

The role requires strong electrical knowledge, at least 3 years in facility management, and bilingual proficiency in English and Chinese.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of electrical systems in critical Data Center operations (substations, transformers, UPS, PDUs, generators, battery systems).
  • Minimum 3 years of facility management experience in critical facilities (data centers, substations, hospitals).
  • Bi-lingual written and spoken English and Chinese.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary interface with Colocation provider teams for day-to-day operations.
  • Supervise on-site Colocation providers and contractors to ensure compliance with practices and local legislation.
  • Manage Colocation suppliers for maintenance and emergency services for critical systems (switchgear, UPS, cooling, power distribution).
  • Generate change management requests and incident tickets for Data Center facilities.
  • Engage in non-office on-call responsibilities and respond to emergencies (power failures, natural disasters).
  • Lead root cause analysis for operational issues with Colocation providers and contractors.
  • Create English documentation for business and facility operations with the Colocation provider.
  • Drive data center safety, security, and availability improvements; maintain inventory via dashboards.
  • Oversee rack installation, space and power/cooling assessments; lead new build/expansion projects through design, implementation, commissioning.
  • Assist in internal recruitment, including interviews and onboarding.

Overview

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary business interface with the Colocation provider’s technical and facility teams to address day‑to‑day operational requirements within the Availability Zone (AZ).
  • Supervise the on‑site Colocation providers and respective contractors, to ensure all works performed complies with established practices, procedures & local legislation.
  • Manage Colocation suppliers to conduct routine maintenance, and respond to emergency services for critical systems including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, etc.
  • Generate change management requests & incident management tickets for Data Center facility.
  • Engage in non‑office on‑call responsibilities and respond promptly to emergency situations or incidents, such as power failures or natural disasters, and review to refine the established Emergency Operations Procedures to effectively handle these situations.
  • Deeply involve with Colocation provider and contractors to resolve infrastructure engineering issues and conduct root cause analysis for operational issues.
  • Establish comprehensive English documentation to business & facility operations in partnership with the Colocation provider.
  • Constantly explore and recommend improvements to enhance the data center safety, security and availability.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date Data Center infrastructure inventory through related matrices and internal dashboards.
  • Take charge of the installation of the racks and conduct the rack space, power/cooling assessment.
  • Lead new build and expansion projects to improve the operations efficiency, including the design, implementation, and commissioning phases.
  • Assist in internal recruitment including conducting interviews and assisting with onboarding.
A Day in the Life
  • Providing timely escalation for all facilities‑related issues within the data center.
  • First‑line troubleshooting and reporting of facility and high‑criticality events within a pre‑determined service level agreement (SLA).
  • Providing assistance to junior and peers.
  • Oversight of third‑party vendors to ensure that all work performed is in accordance with established safety protocols, best practices, and local legislation.
  • Utilization of administrative tools for change management, ticketing, and asset management.
  • Supporting project/stakeholder team and vendor activities.
  • Overseeing all Commissioning activities.
  • Completion of assigned project tasks and managing associated reporting metrics.
  • Engagement of other supporting teams for issue resolution.
  • Ensuring compliance of AWS Data Center safety and security protocols.
  • Involving in day‑to‑day data center facility operations work including facility change management.
  • Involving in vendor management and technical consultation work.
  • Review emergency and standard operating procedures.
  • Participating in facility event analysis.
  • Participating in emergency drills and emergency facility event response.
  • Participating in local and global facility operations‑related projects.
  • Participating in multiple cross‑team trainings.

Basic Qualifications
  • Knowledge of electrical systems in critical Data Center operations that include but are not limited to utility substation feeds, transformers, switchgear, VFI Class UPS, DRUPS, PDUs, ATS, STS, SLA/VRLA batteries and associated systems, diesel/gas turbine generators and related fuel systems, Surge Suppression, Active Harmonic Filtering, battery monitoring systems, branch circuit monitoring systems or SCADA systems.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience with facility management, and operating and maintaining infrastructure equipment in critical facilities such as datacenters, operation factories, substations, hospitals, etc.; Experience in major facilities incident management.
  • Holder of a diploma, an undergraduate degree or above in any engineering‑related discipline; Strong bi‑lingual verbal and written communication skills (English and Chinese).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with operation and maintenance of data centers, or Mission Critical facility management experience for a large enterprise or large Colocation provider.
  • Good work attitude and eagerness to learn, with deep attention to details and accuracy; also possess strong problem‑solving skills and strong ability to work independently and take initiative, while also being a collaborative team player who can work effectively with others.
