Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Data Center Engineer to monitor and operate electrical and mechanical equipment within a 24/7 data center environment in Hong Kong. The role requires a background in electrical/mechanical engineering and relevant safety certifications.

Rotating shifts and on-call duties are part of the responsibilities, with emphasis on fault troubleshooting, vendor coordination, and maintaining high system availability.

Qualifications

  • A Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Building Services Engineering or related discipline is typically required.
  • 2+ years of electrical or mechanical practical and technical experience.
  • A valid Registered Electrical Worker (REW) Certificate, Grade A or above.
  • A valid Construction Industry Safety Training Certificate (Green Card) and a Construction Workers Registration Card are required.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Basic English proficiency in spoken and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Rotate shift work to maintain 24/7 operations coverage.
  • Monitor and operate electrical and mechanical equipment in the data center.
  • Perform routine rounds and record daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Respond to emergencies and troubleshoot to resolve facility equipment issues.
  • Arrange and supervise contractors and vendors for operation and maintenance; follow up on maintenance records.
  • Participate in emergency drills and support facility emergency response per protocols.
  • Be part of the on-call rotation and report to site for emergencies as required.

The Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) Team is the backbone of AWS, supporting the rapid growth of AWS business and customers 24x7. We commit to maintain the critical facility infrastructure of AWS and ensure the standards for operational performance in the areas of safety, security, availability, productivity, capacity, efficiency and cost. The DCEO Team is seeking individuals who are motivated, self-starters, eager to learn, passionate and committed to join us. Key job responsibilities

Rotating shift work is required to maintain 24/7 operations coverage.

Monitor and operate electrical and mechanical equipment in the data center.

Perform routine rounds and record daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment (e.g. temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.).

Respond to emergencies and perform troubleshooting to resolve facility equipment issues.

Arrange and supervise contractors and vendors to ensure proper operation and maintenance of all facility equipment, and follow up on maintenance records accordingly.

Participate in emergency drills and support facility emergency response per established protocols.

Participate in the on-call rotation and report to site for emergencies as required.

A day in the life

Also expected from the EOT is the ability to execute small-to-medium impacting projects from conception to completion. These projects involve moderate amounts of independent work as well as collaboration with external support groups including engineering, automation, processing, and finance in controlled environments. The EOT will be tasked with creating and delivering key milestones, obtaining and tracking quotes for all necessary costs, and documenting project results. The goals of such projects are to drive innovation and resiliency while reducing operational costs in the facilities.

A valid Registered Electrical Worker (REW) Certificate, Grade B or above

Advanced knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems and equipment, including their operation and maintenance.

Advanced knowledge of BMS and EPMS control systems.
