  • Confident representing the organization externally through pitching, networking, and partnership building
  • Strong written communication skills with marketing or brand experience a plus
  • Self-directed and able to run multiple strategic work streams with light day-to-day supervision

Job description

Delivery of a two-year organization development plan across our three strategic pillars: Diversifying income, strengthening internal systems, and building our brand. In addition, you’ll need to help lay the groundwork for expansion into mental health programs and initiatives.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership and Organizational Management

Ensuring that the organizational values of collaboration, cooperation and consensus are upheld personally and fostered within the organizational culture;

Present operational plans for organization impact and gain Board approval as needed to carry out the work of the Vision, Mission, and Values (V/M/V) of the organization, while establishing goals, objectives, fundraising and operational plans in collaboration with the Board of Directors, staff, and other leaders and drive the implementation of the Foundation’s strategic plan;

Work closely with the Board to ensure that communication is dynamic and valuable and that the staff and Board work in sync to achieve strategic and organizational priorities;

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization and ensure its overall successful long-term operations;

Apply innovative thinking and performance measurements to analyse and support strategic decision-making;

Create and maintain strong relationships with non-profit organizations and community leaders throughout the region in order to understand and articulate evolving needs in the region.

Board Governance

Maintain regular and ongoing communication to build strong relationships with the Board, providing leadership and support to members at all times;

Communicate effectively with the Board by providing members with all information necessary to continually function properly and make informed decisions in a timely and accurate manner;

Attend all Board meetings (as instructed by the Board) and provide reports and updates on staff as well as all current work, project timelines, and project/organizational progress;

Implement Board policies and procedures and build support for Board decisions amongst staff;

Work closely and openly with the Board and its committees, ensuring ongoing communication of risks, issues, as well as successes;

Manage and complete all necessary reporting requirements for all grants, sponsorships, and any other contractual agreements with our sponsors and partners.

Development, Events and Fundraising

Drive development, events and fundraising in collaboration with the other employees, leveraging the Board as needed;

Initiate, cultivate, and extend relationships with the organization’s portfolio of individual, foundation, and corporate supporters;

Develop new programs to provide to our partners and participants;

Ensure the organization’s financial stability and sustainability by maintaining healthy cash flow and adequate reserves;

Identify and manage the application and procurement process of new grants and sponsorship.

Financial Management and Administration

Prudently direct resources and along with the Honorary Treasurer, manage all financials within budget guidelines and according to current laws and regulations;

Monitor board-approved budget and manage daily financial operations to ensure maximum utilization of resources and optimum financial positioning for the organization;

Ensure maximum resource utilization, budget management, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position;

Working with the Honorary Treasurer, build and administer the annual budget, with Board approval.

External Relations and Communications

Identify and create new relationships with charity partners, possible sponsors, etc.;

Represent the organization and serve as chief spokesperson publicly at events, conferences, and partnership meetings;

Present and promote the organization and its V/M/V, programs, partners, and members in a consistently positive manner with high visibility to prospects and the public, and build interest in our programs;

Manage all aspects of the organization’s marketing and public relations;

Manage the primary liaison for the Foundation with Valley RFC and Valley Fort.

5 Key Responsibilities:
Supporting the Board and Enabling Good Governance

The Capacity Building Manager’s role in the governance of a charity is significant. Mainly, they enable the Board to fulfil its duties by providing a relevant and accurate record of activities and risks. They will also lead on ensuring regulation and financial elements are well managed, supporting the ongoing development of the Board.

Leading on the Development of the Organisation’s Strategy

This is a critical part of the Capacity Building Manager’s role. Together with the Board and Senior Leadership colleagues, they will ensure a coherent and V/M/V related strategy that takes into account the external and internal challenges and opportunities. Seeking out new opportunities and having commercial acumen is essential.

Developing a Convincing Narrative and Being a Spokesperson on Key Issues

The Capacity Building Manager must ensure V/M/V focus and build the profile not only of the charity itself but more importantly, the issues the organisation seeks to challenge or support.

Ensuring the Organisation Is In Good Operational Shape, Including Fundraising and Finance

It is important that the Capacity Building Manager balances the internal and external demands especially in an increasingly tough environment to raise income.

To Build the Cultural Framework and Lead By Example

This is a critical part of the Capacity Building Manager’s role and can also be the most difficult to define. How the Capacity Building Manager leads by example, over and beyond structured management techniques, will have a huge impact. Do they inspire staff and volunteers to follow them and provide the right balance of support and clarity through tough periods?

Looking for:
