Job summary

IT Channel (Asia) Limited is seeking a Business Analyst in Hong Kong to bridge business needs with data governance and technical delivery. You will elicit and document requirements for data initiatives, transform objectives into user stories, and support governance, testing and adoption across end-to-end delivery.

The role collaborates with data owners, engineers and project teams to ensure data solutions are understood, prioritized and delivered in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, information systems, data, technology, finance or related disciplines.
• 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, preferably in data, analytics or regulatory reporting.
• Familiar with SDLC and Agile delivery, requirements workshops, backlog refinement and UAT coordination.
• Understanding of data lifecycle concepts including data sourcing, transformation, quality, lineage and access control.
• Experience in preparing BRDs, functional specs, user stories and traceability documentation.
• Strong analytical capability to translate complex requirements into artefacts.
• Knowledge of SQL and data profiling; experience with reporting or data visualization tools is preferred.
• Experience in financial services, exchange, market data, risk, finance or enterprise data management is advantageous.
• Excellent facilitation, communication and documentation skills; able to work with business and technical teams.
• Fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and English.

Job description

The incumbent, Business Analyst, Chief Data Office of the Information Technology Division, is an important role for bridging business needs, data governance expectations and technical delivery across the enterprise data platform..

Job Duties

The Business Analyst is responsible for eliciting, analysing, documenting and validating business requirements for data initiatives under the Chief Data Office. Key duties focus on translating business objectives, data use cases, operational pain points and regulatory or governance requirements into clear functional requirements, user stories, process flows, acceptance criteria and implementation support materials. The role works closely with business stakeholders, data owners, data modellers, data engineers, data architects, project managers and control functions to ensure data solutions are properly understood, prioritised, delivered and adopted.

Key Responsibilities:

Together with Data Business Partner to engage business stakeholders, data owners, project teams and CDO to identify business objectives, scope, pain points, priorities and expected outcomes for data initiatives.

Elicit, analyse and document business requirements, functional requirements, data requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria and supporting business rules.

Prepare process flows, data flow explanations, requirement traceability matrices, meeting notes and other documentation required to support delivery governance and stakeholder alignment.

Work with data modellers, data engineers and data analysts to clarify source data, target data definitions, transformation logic, data quality rules and reporting or analytics consumption requirements.

Support backlog management, prioritisation, change impact assessment and issue resolution by coordinating between business users, delivery teams and programme management.

Support user acceptance testing by defining test scenarios, coordinating test preparation, tracking defects and confirming that delivered solutions meet agreed business requirements.

Assist in data migration, legacy remediation and manual file remediation activities by documenting current-state processes, target-state requirements, reconciliation needs and operational readiness plans.

Support data governance, access control, data quality and lineage requirements by capturing business definitions, ownership, usage context and control expectations.

Prepare stakeholder communication, training materials, handover notes and adoption support to help business teams use delivered data capabilities effectively.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in business, information systems, data, technology, finance or related disciplines

5 or more years of working experience as a Business Analyst, preferably supporting data, analytics, regulatory reporting, transformation or enterprise platform initiatives in large organisations. AVP-grade position will require stronger stakeholder management, requirement leadership and delivery governance experience.

Well versed with SDLC project disciplines and experienced in Agile delivery, including requirement workshops, backlog refinement, sprint planning, user story preparation and UAT coordination.

Good understanding of data lifecycle concepts, including data sourcing, data definitions, data transformation, data quality, metadata, lineage, access control and data consumption

Experience in preparing business requirement documents, functional specifications, user stories, process flows, data mapping inputs, test scenarios and requirement traceability documentation.

Strong analytical capability with ability to understand business processes, interpret data issues, challenge assumptions and translate complex requirements into clear delivery artefacts.

Knowledge of SQL, data profiling, reporting tools or data visualisation tools is preferred, with ability to work with technical teams to validate data requirements and test results.

Experience in financial services, exchange, market data, risk, finance, operations, regulatory reporting or enterprise data management domains will be an advantage.

Familiarity with data governance, data quality, data privacy, access control and operational control requirements in regulated environments.

Good facilitation, communication and documentation skills, with ability to work independently with business users and technical delivery teams.

Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple workstreams, issues, decisions and dependencies in a fast-paced programme environment.

Experience with collaboration, workflow or project delivery tools such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, SharePoint or equivalent tools is preferred.

Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to coordinate activities across business, technology, governance and programme stakeholders.

Excellent influencing skills with good command of written and spoken Cantonese, Mandarin and English.
