Job summary

The University of Hong Kong, LKS Faculty of Medicine, seeks an Assistant IT Director / Senior IT Manager to lead CHART's technical development and its team. The appointee will guide planning, delivery, and operation of digital platforms, ensuring security, scalability, and alignment with strategic objectives.

We require a decade of post-qualification tech leadership experience, strong governance, and hands-on platform experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• A higher degree would be an advantage.
• At least 10 years of post-qualification experience in technical development, system architecture, software engineering, or related fields.
• Substantial hands-on experience with platforms, software development, system integration, databases, cloud deployment, and production support.
• Proven managerial experience leading a technical team, including supervising staff, setting priorities, allocating work, and delivering results.
• Strong record of delivering tangible achievements in technical leadership and digital transformation.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, coordination, and project management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with academic, clinical, and industry partners.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical team and provide day-to-day supervision and performance management.
• Oversee architecture, development, deployment, and maintenance of CHART’s digital platforms and databases.
• Ensure system security, reliability, performance, and data governance compliance.
• Drive technical development of AI, digital health, and research-support systems from concept to production.
• Translate operational and research needs into practical technical solutions and plans.
• Coordinate technical resources, timelines, and deliverables across stakeholders.
• Provide strategic technical input to support Centre growth and development.
• Manage integration with external systems, devices, APIs, and platforms.
• Review and improve development workflows, deployment processes, and standards.
• Present progress updates and technical proposals to stakeholders.

Job description

Applications are invited for appointment as Assistant IT Director / Senior IT Manager in the LKS Faculty of Medicine (Ref.: 537342) (to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance)

The Centre for Health AI Research and Translation (CHART) under the LKS Faculty of Medicine is seeking a highly experienced and accomplished IT leader to oversee the Centre’s technical development and manage its technical team. The appointee will lead the planning, development, delivery, and operation of CHART’s technical platforms and digital solutions, ensuring they are robust, scalable, secure, and aligned with the Centre’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the technical team and providing day-to-day supervision, guidance, and performance management.
• Overseeing the architecture, development, deployment, and maintenance of CHART’s digital platforms, applications, databases, and related infrastructure.
• Ensuring system security, reliability, performance, scalability, and compliance with relevant data governance and privacy requirements.
• Driving the technical development of AI, digital health, and research-support systems from concept to production.
• Translating operational and research needs into practical technical solutions and implementation plans.
• Coordinating technical resources, project timelines, and deliverables across multiple stakeholders.
• Providing strategic technical input to support the Centre’s growth and long-term development.
• Managing integration with external systems, devices, APIs, and platforms as required.
• Reviewing and improving development workflows, documentation, deployment processes, and technical standards.
• Presenting progress updates, technical proposals, and system recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.

Applicants should have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline. A higher degree would be an advantage.
• At least 10 years of relevant post-qualification experience in technical development, system architecture, software engineering, or related fields.
• Substantial hands-on experience with technical platforms, software development, system integration, databases, cloud deployment, and production support.

Familiarity with AI, digital health, research systems, and healthcare data environments, and experience in ReactJS/Next.js, Swift, Kotlin, PHP, MySQL, and cloud-based deployment, as well as familiarity with AR, Unity integration or Web3/NFT platforms, would be a strong advantage.
