A leading research university in Newcastle upon Tyne seeks a Senior Electrical Technician to support teaching and research activities. This full-time, permanent role involves technical support for electrical and electronic systems, equipment repair, and collaboration with academic staff. Ideal candidates will have a Higher National Certificate in Electrical Engineering and strong practical knowledge of electrical test equipment.
We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Electrical Technician to join our technical team, supporting both teaching and research activities within the School of Engineering. Based across a range of laboratories and workshops, you will play a vital role in delivering high quality technical support for electrical and electronic engineering. Reporting to the Technical Team Leader and the School Technical Manager, you may also be responsible for supervising other technical staff within your area. You will work alongside a team of electrical and electronic technicians, supporting the operation, maintenance, and development of laboratory spaces and equipment. This includes systems involving batteries, instrumentation, motors, drives, and both electronic and electrical control systems.
Desirable
Please note: This is not an electrical installation role. You will not be involved in installing building electrical systems or carrying out site-based electrical work. We are therefore keen to hear from skilled electricians capable of designing and supporting a variety of teaching equipment and research rigs within the School of Engineering.
Occasionally the role may involve work outside normal hours to ensure teaching is fully supported with time off in lieu provided.
Informal enquiries can be made to the Technical Operations Manager Stephen Robson (stephen.robson@ncl.ac.uk) or Technical Team Leader Roy Proud (roy.proud@ncl.ac.uk).
To apply, please submit an online application including your CV and a cover letter outlining how you meet the essential criteria for this role.
The post is full time, permanent.
