Job description
Management of Violence and Aggression Advisor
The closing date is 11 January 2026

Are you passionate about making a real difference in patient care and staff safety? We’re looking for a dedicated Management of Violence and Aggression (MAV) Advisor to help shape and deliver essential training across our services.

In this exciting role, you’ll work closely with senior instructors and the PTU Manager to plan, implement, and develop innovative approaches to managing aggression and violence. Your expertise will empower our teams to use least restrictive practices and provide compassionate care, even in challenging situations.

You’ll also play a vital part in supporting the Community Dental Service, offering guidance to clinicians on patient management and assisting with safe clinical holding when needed—helping ensure dental care is delivered safely in both hospital and primary care settings.

We’re looking for an experienced healthcare professional who:

  • Is committed to promoting safety and dignity for patients and staff.
  • Has a strong understanding of symptoms of distress and de‑escalation techniques.
  • Is passionate about delivering high‑quality training and fostering a culture of care.

If you’re ready to take on a role that combines clinical expertise, leadership, and education, and want to make a positive impact across the trust, we’d love to hear from you!

Main duties of the job

As a MAV Trainer, you’ll be at the heart of creating safer, more compassionate care environments. Your mission is to deliver impactful training programmes that blend theory with hands‑on practice, all aligned with our Restraint Reduction Programme.

Your focus will be on prevention first—teaching strategies that stop violence before it starts, mastering de‑escalation techniques, and ensuring any intervention is reasonable, proportionate, and risk‑assessed.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Lead inspiring training sessions that empower staff with confidence and practical skills.
  • Run dynamic, interactive courses that adapt to learners’ needs and encourage active participation.
  • Champion positive approaches by exploring the root causes of distress and promoting alternative solutions.
  • Build strong rapport with learners to create a safe, supportive learning environment.
  • Promote equality and inclusion, ensuring anti‑discriminatory practice is at the core of every session.
  • Maintain safety standards—monitor and uphold healthy, secure working environments during training.
  • Provide expert guidance and practical advice throughout sessions to reinforce best practice.

  • We Care – We act with respect and empathy, and always value difference.
  • We Listen – We understand people’s views and respond to their individual needs.
  • We Deliver – We develop and provide excellent services and support our partners.

We will consider a variety of flexible working arrangements to enable staff to balance their work and home lives. We also offer a range of benefits, including:

  • Increase mileage rates for > 3500.
  • A wide range of health and wellbeing support packages.
  • A range of internal and external development and learning opportunities.
  • Plus many more.

We are also proud to pledge our support to the Armed Forces and hold a Bronze Award in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.

BDCFT is dedicated to environmental and social sustainability by delivering on the commitments within our Green Plan. All staff are actively encouraged and supported to participate in training and to identify and implement sustainable quality improvement across all service areas and activities.

Please note that the Trust reserves the right to close the vacancy before the closing date if a sufficient number of applications are received. It is in the candidate’s best interest to apply as soon as possible.
