Locum Consultant Radiologist

Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant Radiologist based at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. There is one available post.

Our multiple sites, Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Solihull Hospital and Community Services, Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham Chest Clinic allow people to be treated as close to home as possible.

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation employs around 20,000 staff and provides services to 2.2m patients every year, from a single outpatient appointment to a heart transplant. We are a regional centre for cancer, bone marrow transplants, trauma, renal dialysis, burns and plastics, HIV and AIDS, as well as respiratory conditions like cystic fibrosis; thoracic surgery and have the largest solid organ transplantation programme in Europe. We also provide a series of highly specialist cardiac, liver and neurosurgery services to patients from across the UK.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established and proactive Consultant Radiologist team to respond to the need of our growing service. The imaging department at UHB has expanded to more than 81 consultants working across all 4 main hospital sites. These posts are based at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. The successful applicant will be contributing to the general work and could support subspecialty interest depending upon the area of individual expertise. They will be expected to participate with colleagues in any out-of-hours provision

Job responsibilities

The timetable of activities will be agreed with the CSL of Radiology before taking up the post. The job plan may be altered in future in consultation with radiological colleagues, the CSL of Diagnostic Radiology BHH and the subspecialty lead. This will be a 10 PA job plan including 1 SPA and on call commitment of 0.75 PA (1 in 26 weekdays and 1 in 13 weekends on call intensity).

This is principally a general radiology post involving acute cross-sectional reporting, adult and paediatric US as well as general intervention.

The successful candidate will also be expected to take an active part in the training of Specialist Registrars on their rotation through the Departments.

The Trust has successfully introduced radiographer skill-mix in several areas including I.V. contrast injections. Supervision of this radiographer extended role may be required.

The normal working day in Imaging may be extended to improve the speed of delivery of the service and maximise the efficient use of the equipment. The appointee will be expected to perform a limited number of sessions in the evenings or weekends together with other radiological colleagues.

A home workstation will be issued for on-call provision, when available

SKILLS & ABILITY

Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other clinical specialties involved with imaging.

Ability to organise and manage outpatient/inpatient priorities in accordance with Trust requirements

Ability and willingness to work within the Trust and NHS performance framework and targets

Experience of audit management

Knowledge of Complaints; ethical issues and Clinical Governance

Prompt & timely responsiveness to Management agenda

Ability to synthesise and prioritise complex and conflicting information
