Specialist Speech & Language Therapist – Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date is 03 October 2025

Are you an experienced speech and language therapist who loves working with adults in the community? This could be your dream job!

Main duties of the job

For more detail about the main duties of this role, please see the job description section below. As a key member of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, you will be joining an exceptional team working together to help our patients stay healthy, when they need it most.

About us

Stretching across Northern, Eastern and Mid Devon, we have a workforce of over 15,000 staff, making us the largest employer in Devon. Our core services, which we provide to more than 615,000 people, cover more than 2,000 square miles across Devon, while some of our specialist services cover the whole of the peninsula, extending our reach to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

We deliver a wide range of emergency, specialist and general medical services through North Devon District Hospital and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (Wonford).

Alongside our two acute hospitals, we provide integrated health and social care services across a variety of settings, including community inpatient hospitals, outpatient clinics, and within people\'s own homes. We also offer primary care services, a range of specialist community services, and Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARC).

Our state-of-the-art equipment, leading technologies and strong links to local universities put us at the forefront of research and innovations, enabling us to provide world-class care to our local communities.

It\'s never been a more exciting time to join the Royal Devon, as you\'ll help to shape our services as we continue along our integration journey.

More detail about the role

Based at Exeter Community Hospital (Whipton), you will use your knowledge and skills to work in partnership with people with acquired communication and swallowing disorders to reduce the impact of these difficulties on well-being and enhance their ability to participate in daily life.

You will be joining our strong, cohesive SLT service which is integrated across acute and community and has excellent systems in place for supervision, support and continuing professional development.

Our community service is evolving and developing, and we are especially looking for applicants who are open to working in different areas and in new ways, to bring ideas and energy that will help to improve the service for the benefit of our patients.

Our mission is to improve quality of life for people with communication and swallowing difficulties. Come and help us do just that!

Here\'s what one of our current community B6 SLTs says:

I genuinely love being part of a team that values learning and innovation. It makes me feel continually motivated within a long-term career and hopeful that we can make meaningful changes to the lives of our patients.

And another: Working in the community is incredibly rewarding because I get to build meaningful relationships and also experience the direct impact of my work on people\'s everyday lives. The community provides me with the opportunity to deliver holistic, personalised care (with the client, family and friends always at the heart) to create lasting change. I love going to work!

Working Pattern: Monday-Friday 08:30-16:30

Interview Date: To Be Confirmed

For further information please contact: Dayna Ivory, Lead SLT: Community on 07766 697808 or dayna.ivory@nhs.net

We recognise the advantages of having a diverse workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
