Bristol
GBP 35,000 - 65,000
Job description
Job title: Support Engineer - Technical Support & Authoritative Advice

Location: Filton (and embedded in the customer site Abbey Wood). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Negotiable dependant on experience.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Collating and reviewing technical information from a variety of sources to provide specialist technical support and authoritative advice to the In-Service Submarine Design Authorities. Investigating defects and technical issues alongside the MoD customer within a timely manner.
  • Acting as a technical query focal point and Subject Matter Expert for BAE Systems embedded in the customer site (Abbey Wood).
  • Integrating between the MoD customer and the BAE business (Barrow shipyard, MoD naval bases and Filton offices).
  • Liaising with Design Authorities to capture LfE and Continuous Improvement on future and legacy designs.
  • Leading/attending customer support meetings and reporting into BAE Systems any issues and programme changes.

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:
  • Experience working alongside Nuclear Submarines and/or in a Technical Support role.
  • Proven ability to translate and present technical information in a clear and concise manner to a range of different stakeholders.
  • Proficient use of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).

Desirable:
  • Degree in Engineering or compatible field (Physics, Mathematics).
  • Time served in Royal Navy Submarine Service.
  • People management skills.

Benefits:

You’ll receive benefits including a competitive pension scheme, enhanced annual leave allowance, and a Company contributed Share Incentive Plan. You’ll also have access to additional benefits such as flexible working, an employee assistance programme, Cycle2work, and employee discounts - you may also be eligible for an annual incentive.
The Technical Support & Authoritative Advice Team:

You will be joining a growing team of eight, tasked with working on the Design Authority Technical Services (DATS) contract. The team is due to grow in the next few years, providing technical support and solutions to a range of different stakeholders, such as the Design Change/Safety and Environmental teams. This team also assists with technical defects queries and helps support continuous improvement and feeding this back to the wider business. We support the Ship System through to secondary propulsion, naval architecture, and the electrical systems on board. Joining this team allows the successful candidate an opportunity to interface with key suppliers and stakeholders as well as on the In-service Submarine with scope to make an impact on the build-line support. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.

Why BAE Systems?

This is a place where you’ll be able to make a real difference. You’ll be part of an inclusive culture that values diversity, rewards integrity, and merit, and where you’ll be empowered to fulfil your potential. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and particularly from sections of the community who are currently underrepresented within our industry, including women, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ individuals. We also want to make sure that our recruitment processes are as inclusive as possible. If you have a disability or health condition (for example dyslexia, autism, an anxiety disorder etc.) that may affect your performance in certain assessment types, please speak to your recruiter about potential reasonable adjustments.

Please be aware that many roles at BAE Systems are subject to both security and export control restrictions. These restrictions mean that factors such as your nationality, any nationalities you may have previously held, and your place of birth can restrict the roles you are eligible to perform within the organisation. All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.

Closing Date: 14th March 2025.
We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible.
