About Us

A team of dedicated people who make a real difference to the lives of young people living in Northamptonshire, we love what we do! After a referral to the Young Carers Service a Young Carer Worker will initially carry out a Needs Assessment which looks at what caring activities a young person may be undertaking, the appropriateness of these activities, and the impact the caring role may be having on them. This assessment takes into consideration the voice of the parent and the voice of the young person. The young person may also want us to talk to other adults in their lives. Following this, a support plan will be put together with actions and recommendations to support the young carer and the family. This could include information, advice, guidance, referrals to other agencies for the young carer or the cared‑for person, or access to support within the service.

The Role
  • To deliver wellbeing focussed one-to-one and group support to a cohort of young carers. To design, develop and implement, in partnership with young people and the wider team, wellbeing resources and a programme of content for groups and one-to-ones.
  • To evaluate and review the needs of young carers, to contribute to monitoring project outcomes and summarising report themes from information gathered.
  • To communicate with Young Carers and their families as appropriate to their needs, encourage participation, whilst considering and being respectful of their individual needs and being culturally sensitive.
  • To provide occasional transport to Young Carers to enable them to access groups and activities.
  • To work as part of the Young Carers Team and feedback any information or concerns to line manager. To report any safeguarding concerns to appropriate staff member, following organisational policies and procedures.
  • To work with Health & Safety law and organisational policies and procedures as part of safe practice, including risk assessments and accident and incident reporting.
  • To provide other such services as may be required from time to time in relation to the post.
