This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of a new area of research exploring the interaction between avian vision and collisions with anthropogenic objects. This project aims to: (i) reshape our knowledge of how birds use landmarks by revealing the visual cues they focus on while flying; (ii) uncover the mechanisms through which human activity influences animal movement; (iii) generate benefits for both society and the environment by guiding possible mitigation strategies; and (iv) drive technological progress through the development of novel algorithms for autonomous navigation.

Having the ability to stand alone and make decisions, you will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publications, present research proposals and results and represent the research group at meetings. You will have experience of independently managing a discrete area of a research project and actively collaborating in the development of research articles for publications. You will join a thriving group of researchers whose focus is on avian flight and vision, set within world-class flight lab facilities at the John Krebs Research Station, Wytham, at the University of Oxford.
