Job summary

Engage Education in Wakefield is seeking a dedicated Youth Worker to support learners aged 11–16 with SEMH needs and related challenges. You will mentor students individually, collaborate with teachers, and help them grow academically, socially and emotionally in a nurturing environment.

This full-time, long-term role offers 08:30–15:30 hours, daily pay of £95–£100, DBS required, and access to CPD, a dedicated consultant, and wellbeing benefits through Engage Education.

Qualifications

• DBS check required prior to starting work.
• Experience with young people, especially SEMH needs, preferred.
• Relevant qualifications or training in youth work, education, or similar fields.

Responsibilities

• Individualised Support: Mentor students one-on-one, fostering academic, social, and emotional growth.
• Classroom Collaboration: Work with teachers to keep students engaged during learning activities.
• Behavioural Coaching: Use positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques to guide behaviour.
• EHCP Alignment: Support students with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCP).
• Social Development: Lead group activities to build self-esteem and social skills.
• Team Communication: Coordinate with teachers, parents, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Safety and Well-being: Ensure a safe, inclusive environment for all students.
• Crisis Management: Stay calm and provide immediate support in distress.

The Role: Youth Worker

As a Youth Worker, you’ll be a cornerstone of our students’ development, offering them the guidance, support, and encouragement they need to thrive. This dynamic role goes beyond the classroom, allowing you to make a meaningful impact on students’ lives.

Your Key Responsibilities

What Makes a Great Youth Worker?

• A genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
• Empathy, patience, and the ability to build trust.
• Experience working with young people, especially those with Autism, Learning Difficulties, or SEMH needs.
• Familiarity with EHCPs and experience in tailoring support plans.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to connect with students, parents, and professionals.
• A team-oriented mindset and a collaborative spirit.
• Previous experience in alternative education or working with excluded students (preferred but not essential).
• Relevant qualifications or training in youth work, education, or similar fields (desirable but not required).
