Job description

You know that one young person who finally opens up to you after weeks of silence? The one who starts showing up, joining in, and believing in themselves a little more because someone took the time to understand them.

That's exactly why you'd be brilliant in this role.

We're looking for Youth Workers, Behaviour Mentors, Sports Coaches, Support Workers, and anyone with experience supporting young people to join SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) schools across the area as a Teaching Assistant.

No classroom experience? That's okay.

If you've built trust with young people, helped them through tough moments, and know how to stay calm when things get challenging, you've already got skills schools are crying out for.

What does the role involve?

Every day is different, but you could be:

  • Supporting pupils who need extra emotional and behavioural support
  • Building positive relationships with young people who may have struggled in mainstream education
  • Helping students stay engaged with learning
  • Being a calm, consistent adult they can rely on
  • Working alongside teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams
Who are we looking for?

You might be a:

  • Youth Worker
  • Behaviour Mentor
  • Sports Coach
  • Residential Support Worker
  • Children's Support Worker
  • Community Worker
  • Graduate looking to start a career in education
  • Someone with personal experience supporting young people

Most importantly, you'll be patient, resilient, and genuinely passionate about helping young people succeed.

Why SEMH?

Because every small win matters.

A student attending a full day. A young person regulating their emotions. A learner believing they can achieve something they never thought possible.

These schools change lives, and you'll play a huge part in that story.

What you'll get from Protocol Education
  • Weekly PAYE pay, no umbrella company faff
  • FREE access to our online CPD Academy
  • Dedicated consultant support from people who actually pick up the phone
  • Opportunities in SEMH, SEND and alternative provision settings
  • Flexible and long-term opportunities available
  • Clear career pathways into teaching, pastoral work and SEND specialisms
Ready to make a difference?

If you've got experience supporting young people and want a role where your impact is felt every single day, we'd love to hear from you.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
