Job summary

Bury Council is seeking an Accommodation & Homelessness Prevention Worker to support looked after children and care leavers aged 16 to 25 in securing and sustaining suitable housing. You will work with Personal Advisors, Social Workers and housing providers to help young people develop independence and tenancy readiness.

The role focuses on preventing homelessness, delivering practical budgeting and tenancy support, and building strong partnerships to ensure timely help.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with children, young people or vulnerable adults.
• Understanding of the challenges faced by care leavers.
• Knowledge of housing, tenancy support or homelessness prevention.
• Experience of supporting individuals to develop independence and life skills.
• Excellent communication and partnership-working skills.
• A flexible approach to work, including occasional work outside normal office hours where required.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with looked after children and care leavers who require support around housing and accommodation.
• Help young people secure and sustain suitable accommodation and prevent tenancy breakdown.
• Provide practical support with budgeting, benefits, bills, utilities and tenancy management.
• Deliver one-to-one and group-based support focused on independent living skills and tenancy readiness.
• Contribute to Pathway Planning and work closely with Personal Advisors to achieve positive outcomes for young people.
• Develop strong partnerships with housing providers, support agencies and other professionals to ensure young people receive the right help at the right time.
