The organisation

In this Young Persons Support Worker opportunity in Coventry, you will join a charity whose purpose is to help individuals gain independence and follow a positive pathway out of homelessness.

Key responsibilities

In this Young Persons Support Worker role, your responsibilities will include:

1. Managing a caseload of 8-12 individuals at one time, creating 1:1 support plans based on each person to promote independent living.
2. Assisting with finances, budgeting, cooking skills, laundry, applying for jobs, and re-engaging with education.
3. Supporting individuals with bidding for housing and setting up benefits, alongside developing independent living skills.
4. Planning activities or workshops to provide information, advice, and guidance for those living out of temporary accommodation.
5. Booking and attending appointments on behalf of clients.
6. Helping clients overcome external barriers such as mental health issues, domestic violence, substance misuse, or learning disabilities, and encouraging engagement with external agencies for support.
7. Keeping track of payments for housing, service charges, rent, etc.

Skills & experience

1. Proven experience working as a Young Persons Support Worker or in supported housing, with up-to-date knowledge of housing legislation.
2. Willingness to travel across the Coventry area; a care driver license is highly desirable but not essential.
3. Enhanced DBS clearance on the update service for both child and adult work.
4. Flexibility to work 5 days over 7, including shift work.
