SEMH Teacher – Alternative Provision
Location: Tameside
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: Competitive rates

About the School

We are working in partnership with an alternative provision school in Oldham, recently rated Good by Ofsted in 2024, that specialises in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is a dynamic and inclusive school that offers tailored education to secondary-aged pupils who may not thrive in mainstream settings. The team is dedicated to creating a nurturing, structured, and engaging environment where every student is valued, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential — both academically and personally.

They are now looking for an inspiring and resilient SEMH Teacher to join their outstanding team. If you are passionate about supporting young people with SEMH and thrive in a setting where every day is different, we’d love to hear from you.

The Role

As an SEMH Teacher, you will deliver engaging, differentiated lessons to students who require additional social, emotional, and behavioural support. This role offers a chance to make a real difference in the lives of young people who have often experienced disruption in their education.

Key Responsibilities:

Delivering creative and flexible lessons tailored to the individual learning and emotional needs of students with SEMH.

Creating a safe, supportive, and structured learning environment that fosters positive behaviour and emotional regulation.

Collaborating with a strong pastoral and SEN team to ensure students' personal and academic needs are met.

Supporting students with their EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) outcomes.

Working closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for each learner.

Adapting existing lesson plans and utilising a trauma-informed approach to teaching.

About You

The ideal candidate will be a compassionate, adaptable, and experienced teacher with a commitment to inclusive education. You will have:

A recognised teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent).

Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or within an alternative provision or PRU setting.

Strong classroom management skills and a calm, patient approach.

A passion for helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve personal success.

Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

SEN qualifications or training are desirable but not essential.

Why Join This School?

Outstanding Ofsted Rating: Join a school recognised for its excellence in teaching, leadership, and student progress.

Supportive Staff Team: Work alongside experienced, passionate educators in a tight-knit and supportive environment.

Professional Development: Ongoing training in trauma-informed practice, SEMH strategies, and more.

Pathway to Permanency: Strong potential for temp-to-perm for the right candidate.

Focus on Wellbeing: A school that prioritises emotional and mental health — for students and staff alike.
