Job summary

Tilbury Douglas is offering a Year Out Quantity Surveyor placement on-site in Devon within the South West Infrastructure team. You will work with experienced commercial professionals to develop your understanding of cost management, procurement, contracts and commercial decision-making.

You’ll gain hands-on experience across budgets, valuations, and project documentation, building practical knowledge, confidence and professional relationships for your final year and future career.

Qualifications

• Currently studying toward a degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a closely related discipline with a placement year.
• Must have a full UK driving licence or be working toward obtaining one by Feb 2027.
• Strong problem-solving abilities with a practical, logical approach.
• Good written and verbal communication skills for diverse stakeholders.
• Collaborative mindset and willingness to learn and take on responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day commercial management of construction projects.
• Support preparation of cost estimates, budgets, forecasts and reports.
• Assist with procurement of subcontractors and suppliers, including enquiries and quotations.
• Understand subcontract packages and commercial processes for supply chain management.
• Assist with subcontractor valuations and payments verification.
• Monitor project costs against budgets and understand financial performance.
