Job summary

Tilbury Douglas in the North East region is offering a site-based Year Out Quantity Surveying placement. You will work with experienced commercial professionals on live construction projects, applying cost management, procurement and contract knowledge while building practical skills and professional relationships.

During the placement you’ll gain exposure to cost estimation, budgets, procurement, subcontractor valuations, and commercial reporting.

Qualifications

• Currently studying towards a degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
• Placement year is part of your studies.
• Full UK driving licence required by February 2027.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel across regional project sites.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day commercial management of construction projects.
• Support with cost estimates, budgets, forecasts and commercial reports.
• Assist with procurement of subcontractors and suppliers, including enquiries and quotations.
• Develop understanding of subcontract packages and commercial processes in appointing and managing the supply chain.
• Assist with subcontractor valuations and payments.
• Monitor project costs against budgets and understand financial performance.
• Support identification, assessment and management of variations and changes.
• Develop understanding of construction contracts and how they influence delivery.
• Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation.
• Attend commercial, project and progress meetings and contribute as knowledge develops.
• Develop understanding of commercial risk and opportunity across a project.
