Job summary

RWE Renewables UK Management Ltd. invites you to a Year in Industry placement within the Operations & Maintenance Modelling Development team. Gain hands-on experience delivering modelling tools and analysis to support offshore wind projects.

You will work in a small, collaborative team, develop maintainable Python code, and interact with stakeholders while your development is mentored through a structured programme.

Qualifications

• Enrolled student in Computer Science, Engineering or similar analytical discipline.
• Degree course eligible for a year in industry placement.
• Good Python development skills for analytical purposes.

Start date in July 2027, full time, fixed term (12 months)
Hybrid model meaning 3 days per week onsite in London or Swindon (one of which needs to be at Swindon), rest can be home base

About the role

• Gain valuable knowledge and experience of
  • Working within a small, collaborative team that is recognised across the business for delivering high-quality modelling and analytical support to RWE's growing offshore wind portfolio.
  • Developing and using innovative modelling tools and techniques that support project development and operational decision-making.
  • How commercial decisions that underpin large-scale renewable energy investments are made.
  • Working alongside, and learning from, industry-leading technical specialists whilst directly supporting the green energy transition.
• Actively support the team e.g. by
  • Taking the lead on your own development project, to either enhance one of our existing models or create a new one.
  • Undertaking modelling work for offshore energy generation projects, and contributing to related team and stakeholder meetings.
  • Bringing new ideas to the team with your innovative and fresh thinking.

Job requirements and experience

• You're an enrolled student in one of the following degree courses: Computer Science, Engineering or a similarly analytical discipline.
• Your degree course is eligible for a year in industry placement.
• You have good Python development skills, with experience of writing maintainable, well-structured code for analytical purposes.
• You have good verbal and written communication skills.
• You're able to coordinate your own workload and to meet tight deadlines.
• Working in a diverse team environment and dealing with a range of stakeholders every day is something you feel comfortable with.
• Motivation is crucial; your cover letter will tell us why you're a suitable candidate for this opportunity, and how it aligns with your studies & career plans.
• You have lived in the UK for a minimum of 5 years. This is due to the potential requirement for National Security Vetting (NSV). Please refer to the UK Government's National Security Vetting guidance for further details and eligibility requirements.

Advantageous, but not essential

• Experience with other modelling tools and technologies, including Excel, VBA, HTML and Microsoft Azure cloud services.

This position is aimed at those currently studying who are eligible for a Year in Industry Placement. For those who will be graduating Summer 2027 we encourage you to apply for our graduate programme which will be advertised in January 2027.
