Job summary

The Year in Industry placement at Robin Rigg Offshore Windfarm, Workington, sits in RWE’s Offshore Operations, offering hands-on experience in day-to-day turbine operation and maintenance planning. You’ll gain practical insight into offshore engineering and contribute to project delivery.

The 12-month, full-time role is aligned to the Real Living Wage, includes mentoring, cross-site collaboration with global colleagues, and training such as GWO certificates and internal technical courses.

Qualifications

  • Ongoing studies in Mechanical/Electrical/Engineering or IT related disciplines.
  • Eligibility to complete a year in industry placement as part of degree.
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate workloads independently and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Gain practical insight into the day-to-day operation of an offshore wind farm.
  • Build hands-on offshore engineering experience by working on wind turbines.
  • Support the development and implementation of engineering policies for wind farm operations.
  • Take ownership of an allocated project from start to finish.

Fully site based at Robin Rigg Offshore Windfarm, Workington, and due to the location, it is essential you live within a reasonable distance

About the role
  • Gain practical insight into the day-to-day operation of an offshore wind farm.

  • Take ownership of an allocated project from the initial stage through to completion.
  • Contribute to tasks supporting strategic engineering and commercial decision-making.
  • Assist with the planning, scheduling and delivery of maintenance work to optimise costs and plant performance.
  • Deliver selected engineering projects for Robin Rigg Offshore Windfarm based on the relevant degree discipline and experience.
Job requirements and experience
  • Ongoing studies in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering, IT, Computing and Networking or a related discipline.
  • Eligibility to complete a year in industry placement as part of the degree programme.
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate workloads independently and meet tight deadlines.
  • Confidence working in a diverse team environment and engaging with a range of stakeholders.
  • Motivation is crucial; your cover letter will tell us why you´re a suitable candidate for this opportunity, and how it aligns with your studies & career plans.
  • A minimum of five years’ residence in the UK due to the potential requirement for National Security Vetting.

This position is aimed at those currently studying who are eligible for a Year in Industry Placement. For those who will be graduating Summer 2027 we encourage you to apply for our graduate programme which will be advertised in January 2027.
