Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting a Year 2 Teacher in Chelmsford, Essex for a part-time, long-term placement starting January 2027. The role is 2 days per week, with responsibilities across planning, delivery and assessment within KS1.

You will work with a supportive school team to maintain a positive, inclusive classroom and build strong relationships with pupils and staff. QTS and KS1 experience are expected.

• Phonics and early literacy knowledge desired
• Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
• Experience supporting pupils with SEND and varying abilities
• Excellent communication, organisation and teamwork

Responsibilities

Working Days: 2 Days per Week
Salary: £140–£160 per day (depending on experience)

Are you a passionate and enthusiastic Year 2 Teacher looking for a part-time teaching opportunity?

TeacherActive is working with a welcoming and supportive primary school in Chelmsford that is looking for a dedicated Year 2 Teacher to join their team from January 2027.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced teacher or an ECT looking for a long-term, part-time position within a friendly school environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging lessons, supporting pupils' academic development and ensuring a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

The successful Year 2 Teacher will be expected to:

• Plan and deliver engaging lessons in line with the KS1 National Curriculum.
• Support pupils with a range of abilities, including those with SEND and additional learning needs.
• Create a positive, inclusive and stimulating classroom environment.
• Monitor and assess pupil progress, adapting teaching strategies where necessary.
• Work closely with teaching assistants and other staff to support pupils' learning.
• Maintain effective classroom and behaviour management.
• Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues and senior leadership.
• Work collaboratively with the class teacher to ensure consistency and continuity throughout the week.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Experience teaching within KS1, ideally Year 2.
• Strong knowledge of the KS1 National Curriculum, phonics and early literacy.
• Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEND and varying learning abilities.
• Strong communication, organisation and teamwork skills.
• A caring, patient and enthusiastic approach to teaching.
• The ability to commit to 2 days per week on a long-term basis.
