Teach Plus Limited in Edgware is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support a Year 1 pupil with ASD. This full-time role focuses on enabling the pupil to access learning, communicate effectively, and engage in social activities within the classroom.

The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and SEN team, building confidence and independence, and contributing to an inclusive, supportive school community in North London.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant in primary settings.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant curriculum and teaching strategies.
  • Enhanced DBS certificate with Update Service.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK and right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated support for a Year 1 pupil with ASD.
  • Assist pupil in accessing classroom learning and activities.
  • Support communication, emotional regulation and engagement.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive social interactions.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO and support team.
  • Monitor progress and adapt support to the pupil's needs.

About the role and school

Teach Plus are currently recruiting for a caring and experienced Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Edgware, starting ASAP.This full-time Teaching Assistant role will involve providing dedicated support to a child in Year 1 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).The successful Teaching Assistant will work closely with the class teacher and SEN team to help the pupil access learning, develop their communication and social skills, and build confidence and independence within the classroom.

The school is a large, inclusive primary school with a strong community ethos and a commitment to ensuring every child feels valued and supported.The school offers a broad and engaging curriculum within a positive learning environment, supported by experienced leadership and a collaborative staff team.Inclusion and pupil wellbeing are central to the school's approach, with teachers and support staff working closely together to meet the individual needs of pupils.

This Teaching Assistant position would particularly suit someone with previous experience supporting children with ASD or other special educational needs.The school is looking for a patient, nurturing and adaptable Teaching Assistant who can build a positive relationship with the pupil and provide consistent support throughout the school day.This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive primary school and make a genuine difference to a child's educational, social and emotional development.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide dedicated support for a Year 1 pupil with ASD

  • Implement appropriate strategies to support communication, emotional regulation and engagement
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive social interactions
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team to provide consistent support
  • Monitor the pupil's progress and adapt support according to their individual needs
Qualifications/Experience
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role
  • Strong subject/curriculum knowledge relevant to the role
  • Enhanced DBS Certificate with the Update Service
  • Right to work in the UK
