Job summary

FTH Hire Group in Reading is seeking a reliable Yard Person/Relief Driver to ensure the safe, efficient and smooth running of the yard operation. You will assist in loading and unloading vehicles and support the workshop and trade counter as required, contributing to a high standard of service.

With a focus on health and safety, you will manage stock storage, perform regular yard checks, and help maintain a clean working environment.

Qualifications

• Counterbalance forklift licence is preferred.
• Knowledge of plant and tools is advantageous.
• Friendly, professional manner with good customer service.
• Ability to take instruction from senior staff and lead by example.

Responsibilities

• Keep yard and warehouse clean and swept regularly.
• Assist with loading and unloading vehicles for colleagues, customers and suppliers.
• Support trade counter staff in moving hires to and from workshop and yard.
• Ensure safe storage of spare parts, hire and sales stock.
• Follow health & safety procedures and security protocols.
• Carry out a daily walk-round to secure keys and small equipment.

Our plant hire fleet is replaced every 12 – 18 months, ensuring customers are always hiring machines that are modern, efficient, and reliable. The primary responsibility of the Yard Person/Relief Driver is to be responsible for the safe efficient and smooth running of the yard operation.

Yard Person Duties And Responsibilities

• Ensuring the yard and warehouse is always swept and clean
• Wash area is regularly pressure cleaned and free from mud deposits
• Helping load and unload vehicles for both colleagues, customers, and suppliers
• Support of trade counter staff in ferrying on and off hires to and from workshop and yard
• Safe storage of spares, Hire and Sales Stock
• Health & Safety
• Security
• To perform a walk around every evening ensuring all keys are removed from plant and any small items of equipment are removed from the yard and secured inside the depot
• Relief 3.5T Driving/towing a trailer on rare occasions

Other Duties

• Non – Mechanical service inspections of Ladders, Steps, staging’s, Tower Components, Accrows, Bandstands, Chapter 8 Barriers, Site Fencing, Block Grabs, Plant Attachments etc….

Yard Person Requirements

• Ideally possess Counterbalance forklift licence
• Knowledge of tool and plant is an advantage
• Friendly and professional manner
• Ability to take instruction from senior staff and lead by example
• High standards of Customer Service
