Job summary

Hough Green Garage Ltd is seeking a Yard Operator in Telford to join a dedicated depot team. The role focuses on safe, efficient yard operations and high-quality customer service across a 24/7 breakdown service environment.

You will prioritise daily tasks, support admin duties, and ensure compliance with procedures, GDPR, and health and safety standards while maintaining calm under pressure.

Qualifications

• Must have experience operating a forklift truck.
• Strong organisational skills and accuracy.
• Excellent communication and customer service.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Support the daily operation of the depot as part of a team.
• Provide a consistently high level of customer service.
• Follow all company procedures, policies and relevant legislation.
• Promote and maintain a strong Health & Safety culture throughout the depot.
• Ensure all depot processes and procedures are completed accurately and efficiently.
• Communicate clearly with colleagues, customers and other stakeholders.
• Handle documentation and personal information securely in line with GDPR policies.
• Assist with general administration and day-to-day running of the depot.

Yard Operator

Location: Telford

Salary: £13.00 per hour

Vacancy Type: Permanent, Fill time

Hough Green Garage is a market leader in the provision of 24-hour Breakdown and Recovery Services, with over 40 years of industry experience. We operate 365 days a year, supporting Local Authorities, Emergency Services, Motoring Organisations, private companies, and members of the public on a national basis.

Yard Operator, you will play an integral role within a wider team, helping to deliver a consistently high standard of service without compromise.

Using your initiative, strong organisational skills and attention to detail, you will be responsible for prioritising daily tasks and supporting the smooth, safe and efficient operation of the depot.

This is a demanding role with high expectations, requiring someone who is proactive, reliable and able to remain calm and effective when working under pressure.

The Role

Key responsibilities and skills include:

• Working as part of a team to support the successful and efficient day-to-day operation of the depot.
• Providing a consistently high level of customer service.
• Ensuring all company procedures, policies and relevant legislation are followed.

• Has previous experience operating a forklift truck.

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

The following would be advantageous:

• Knowledge or experience within the automotive industry.
• A clean, valid driving licence.
• Towing entitlement.
• A valid forklift truck licence.
• Good geographical knowledge and awareness of the local area.
