Job summary

CMMS Transport Services is seeking a reliable Yard Operative to support day-to-day yard operations, keeping the space safe, organised and efficient. The role involves assisting with vehicle and equipment movements, maintaining yard standards, and providing general support to the transport and operations teams.

You will gain experience by performing routine checks on vehicles and equipment, moving and parking heavy vehicles within the yard, and assisting with loads and securing equipment.

Qualifications

• Experience in a yard, warehouse or transport environment is preferred.
• Basic mechanical knowledge of vehicles or plant machinery is advantageous.
• Ability to operate forklifts or other yard machinery (training can be provided).
• Good understanding of health & safety practices.
• Physically fit and capable of manual handling.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Organise and maintain the yard to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient working environment.
• Assist with loading and unloading of vehicles, machinery and equipment.
• Carry out routine checks on vehicles, trailers and equipment.
• Move and park heavy vehicles or plant equipment within the yard safely.
• Support drivers with load preparation and securing equipment.
• Report defects, damage or maintenance issues to management.
• Operate yard equipment (e.g., forklifts, telehandlers) if trained and authorised.
• Follow all company health and safety procedures and industry regulations.
• Provide general support to the wider operations team as required.

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Yard Operative to join our team. The role involves supporting the day-to-day operations of the yard, ensuring it remains safe, organised, and efficient. The Yard Man will be responsible for assisting with vehicle and equipment movements, maintaining yard standards, and providing general support to the transport and operations teams.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Organise and maintain the yard to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient working environment.

Assist with the loading and unloading of vehicles, machinery, and equipment.
