Job summary

Network Plus is seeking a Yard Operative to manage all yard activities and ensure smooth operations. You will coordinate equipment, stocks, and safety across the depot to support on-site efficiency and compliance with company procedures.

The role requires strong organisational skills, a full UK driving licence, and basic handyman abilities. Telehandler licence is preferable, and you will work in a hands-on environment supporting multiple sites.

Responsibilities

• Keep ultimate control of yard operations and ensure efficient movement of vehicles and materials.
• Prepare equipment in advance of planned works and report shortfalls.
• Assign tasks to depot operatives during idle times.
• Monitor battery charging and quantities; report to manager.
• Carry out weekly stock checks of kit and PPE; report shortages.
• Ensure plant and equipment are in full working order and perform minor maintenance as needed.
• Maintain a safe working environment by patrolling the depot for hazards.
• Ensure yard and stores areas are clean, tidy and secure.
• Monitor yard security daily and optimise space in yards/stores.
• Comply with company policies and procedures.

Description

As a Yard Operative, you will have ultimate responsibility for everything that moves within your yard and stores. The role is to ensure efficiency and smooth running in the depot which in turns gives efficiency and compliance on sites whilst maintaining the company procedures and policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Good computer skills to allow you to utilise the sign making software for the production of Specific road signs.
• Ensure that all planned work jobs have their required equipment prepicked in advance of the works, and report any shortfalls.
• Capable of putting operatives to work in the depot when they have dead time through the day.
• Monitor Battery Charging, Monitor battery quantities, and record and report to their manager.
• Carry out weekly stock checks to ensure that kit levels are kept on top of.
• Report shortages of equipment as and when needed.
• Monitor PPE levels, Issue PPE and record and report to their manager.
• Ensure that all plant and equipment is in full working order, where necessary to carry out minor maintenance of this equipment
• Ensure a safe working environment; walking the depot regularly to check all areas are safe and free of any potential hazards.
• Ensure that the yard / stores areas are kept clean and tidy at all times.
• Keep security of the yard / stores to the highest level, ensuring Secured areas are monitored daily.
• Ensure that space in the yards / stores areas are optimised
• Must be able to follow company Policies and Procedures.
