Job summary

Nub News is seeking a hardworking Yard Operative to join our recycling and waste management site in Shepshed. This is a hands-on, full-time role where you'll safely move recyclable materials, load and unload vehicles, and help maintain efficient yard operations in all weather.

You will operate a forklift, sort materials, assist with stock movements, and follow health, safety and environmental procedures to meet daily targets.

Qualifications

• Experience operating forklifts in recycling or industrial environments.
• Counterbalance forklift licence preferred.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform manual handling.
• Strong awareness of health and safety requirements.
• Reliable, punctual and a good team player.

Responsibilities

• Operate a forklift truck to move recyclable materials around the site.
• Load and unload HGVs, trailers and containers.
• Sort, move and store materials in designated areas.
• Feed production or processing areas with materials as required.
• Maintain a clean, safe yard and report defects.
• Follow environmental, quality and health & safety procedures.
• Support colleagues to meet daily production targets.
• Complete basic paperwork and stock movements as required.

Job description

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 5:00pm

About the Role

We are recruiting for a hardworking and reliable Yard Operative to join our growing recycling and waste management operation. This is a varied, hands-on role where you'll be responsible for safely moving recyclable materials around the site, loading and unloading vehicles, and supporting the day-to-day operation of a busy recycling facility. Working as part of a close-knit team, you'll help ensure materials are processed safely, efficiently, and in line with environmental and health & safety standards. This role would suit candidates with previous experience in recycling, waste management, warehouse, manufacturing, production, aggregates, scrap metal, industrial, or yard environments . Please note: Previous clam / claw / grab driving or front loading shovel experience is essential for this position.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate a forklift truck safely to move recyclable materials around the site.
• Load and unload HGVs, trailers and containers.
• Sort, move and store recyclable materials in designated areas.
• Feed production or processing areas with materials as required.
• Maintain a clean, tidy and safe recycling yard.
• Carry out routine equipment checks and report any defects.
• Assist with general recycling and waste processing duties.
• Follow all environmental, quality and health & safety procedures.
• Support colleagues to ensure daily production targets are achieved.
• Complete basic paperwork and stock movements where required.

What We're Looking For

• Previous clam / claw / grab driving or front loading shovel driving experience
• A valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence is preferred.
• Previous experience within recycling, waste management, warehouse, manufacturing, production or industrial environments.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Physically fit and capable of manual handling duties.
• Strong awareness of health and safety.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work as part of a team.
• Positive attitude with a willingness to learn.
