Are you looking for a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same? Do you enjoy working with customers, being part of a busy team and working outdoors?

Our client is a well-established and respected business looking to recruit a Yard Operative to join their friendly team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys delivering outstanding customer service while working in a busy yard environment. You will play an important role in ensuring customers receive the correct products, orders are prepared accurately and the yard is maintained to a high standard.

The Role

As a Yard Operative, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service while assisting with the day-to-day running of the yard. You will prepare customer orders, load and unload vehicles, receive deliveries, maintain stock levels and ensure the yard remains safe, organised and efficient.

This is a physically active role that would suit someone who enjoys practical work and takes pride in delivering a high standard of service.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, professional and efficient customer service.
• Assist customers with product enquiries and order collections.
• Pick and prepare customer orders accurately.
• Ensure products are selected and prepared for collection, processing or delivery.
• Load and unload customer and supplier vehicles safely.
• Receive deliveries and check goods against delivery documentation.
• Complete all paperwork accurately and maintain operational records.
• Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the management team.
• Keep the yard, storage areas and stock locations clean, tidy and well organised.
• Ensure products are stored safely and presented to a high standard.
• Follow all company procedures relating to health and safety.
• Support colleagues and undertake additional duties as required.

About You

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, reliable and enjoys working as part of a team.

Ideally, you will have:

• Previous experience in a yard, warehouse, distribution or trade counter environment.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• The ability to work accurately with strong attention to detail.
• Good organisational skills and a proactive approach to work.
• Confidence using both metric and imperial measurements.
• Experience operating a forklift truck or side-loading vehicle would be an advantage, although training can be provided.
• An understanding of manual handling and safe working practices.
• The ability to work independently and prioritise workloads.
• A willingness to learn, develop new skills and contribute to the success of the team.
