Job summary

Mabey Hire is seeking a Yard Operative at our Garswood depot to support our growing operations team. The role offers opportunities to upskill and develop within the company.

Key duties include loading/unloading, stock checking, and equipment inspection in an outdoor yard environment. Training may be provided for plasma cutting and welding tools, with potential for a company bonus and health benefits.

Qualifications

• Experience in an operative position.
• Good literacy and numeracy skills to accurately record data.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• IT skills – tablets used in yard.

Responsibilities

• Load product onto lorries and stack against picking lists and documentation to ensure delivery accuracy.
• Unload, segregate and identify incoming equipment for accurate picking.
• Record receipt of loads from hire or suppliers to maintain records.
• Comply with Health and Safety requirements in depot for safe loading/unloading/moving stock.
• Inspect equipment for damage to ensure kit is fit for future use.
• Drive or use equipment to complete daily routines within timescales.
• The role is outdoors.
• Cleaning equipment using high pressure jet wash; use of small tools like ratchet gun, angle grinder.
• Potential training to use plasma cutter, welder and hydraulic test equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Load product onto lorries and stack against picking lists and other authorised documentation ensuring accuracy of delivery of stock
• Unload, segregate and arrange identification of incoming equipment (both non-hire and hire equipment) to ensure accuracy of picking
• Record receipt of loads following return from hire or goods received from supplier to enable accurate records to be maintained
• Comply with Health and Safety requirements in depot to ensure loading, unloading and moving stock is carried out in a safe and secure environment
• Inspect equipment for any damage in accordance with the quality manual and ensure kit is fit for future use
• Drive or use work equipment to enable daily routines to be completed within timescales
• The role is outdoors
• Cleaning equipment using a high pressure jet wash and use of small tools e.g. ratchet gun, angle grinder.
• Possibility to train to use plasma cutter, welder and hydraulic test equipment.

Preferred requirements:

• Experience in an operative position.
• FLT Licence – preferred but not essential as training will be given.
• LOLER or PUWER qualifications – not essential but preferred.
• Good literacy and numeracy skills to accurately record and interpret data.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• IT skills – we use tablets in the yard.
