Job summary

Eastlight Community Homes in Colchester is seeking a reliable Yard Operative to support our trades teams by keeping the yard and stores clean, safe and well organised. You will help ensure materials, tools, stock and vehicles are available and ready for use, enabling our teams to deliver services to customers.

The role requires a clean UK driving licence, a permanent contract, 37 hours per week, and a competitive package including a wellbeing grant and pension.

• Clean UK Driving Licence is required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high standards of housekeeping across the yard and stores.
• Manage waste and skip exchanges, ensuring correct waste segregation.
• Carry out PAT testing and ladder inspections.
• Issue, track and audit tools, ladders and other assets.
• Complete deliveries, collections and van stock replenishment.
• Monitor stock levels and raise purchase orders when required.
• Support vehicle checks and preparation.
• Act as a site keyholder, opening and closing the premises.
• Follow all health and safety procedures and contribute to safe working practices.
• Assist customers and colleagues with enquiries.
• Support continuous improvement of yard and store operations.
• Maintain the re-use shop and special orders register.

The Role

The Role

We are seeking a reliable and proactive Yard Operative to support our trades teams by maintaining a safe, clean and well‑organised yard and stores environment.

Working closely with the Logistics & Fleet Manager, you will help ensure materials, tools, stock and vehicles are available and ready for use, enabling our teams to deliver excellent services to customers.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain high standards of housekeeping across the yard and stores.

Manage waste and skip exchanges, ensuring correct waste segregation.

Carry out PAT testing and ladder inspections.

Benefits and Compensation

• £31,466 per annum
• 37 hours per week Permanent contract
• 30 days paid annual leave plus bank holidays
• Group stakeholder pension plan (Eastlight will double, up to 5% of the employee’s contribution - Employee 5% + Eastlight 10% = Total 15%)
