Job summary

Optima Site Solutions Ltd is recruiting for a Yard Manager in Croydon. You will lead a yard team, ensure safe and efficient operations, and oversee stock and deliveries. The role is hands‑on and not office‑based, with a focus on customer service and operational efficiency.

Salary ranges £35,000–£38,000 with DOE, Monday–Friday, 7:00am–5:00pm. Training including FLT certification is available where required, and this is a long‑term opportunity within an established builder’s merchant.

Qualifications

• Previous management or supervisory experience within a building merchants' environment (essential).
• Experience working within a builders' merchant or similar construction supplies business (essential).
• Proactive, hands-on approach with strong leadership skills.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks.
• Strong focus on customer service and operational efficiency.
• Knowledge of stock control and yard operations.
• Forklift Truck (FLT) licence would be advantageous; training can be provided.

Responsibilities

• Manage and motivate a team of operatives.
• Lead from the front by working alongside the team in the yard.

• Ensure customer collections are prepared accurately and on time.
• Coordinate outbound deliveries to ensure orders leave as scheduled.

• Provide excellent customer service and assist customers as required.

Yard Manager (Building Merchants)

Location: Croydon, South London | Salary: £35,000 - £38,000 DOE | Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm

Optima are recruiting on behalf of a well‑established, independent building merchants based in Croydon for an experienced Yard Manager. This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful and growing business that prides itself on delivering outstanding customer service and maintaining high operational standards.

This is a hands‑on, working Yard Manager position. You will be expected to lead by example, working alongside your team daily while ensuring the yard operates safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. This is not an office‑based management role.

Role

As Yard Manager, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day running of the yard, managing a team while ensuring excellent service is provided to all customers.
