Job summary

Lords Builders Merchants in Beaconsfield is seeking a hands-on Yard Supervisor to lead a busy yard and develop a team of five or more colleagues. You will oversee daily operations, ensure stock accuracy, and maintain high safety standards while delivering excellent customer service.

This role requires experience in a builders' merchant setting, plus a proactive, hands-on approach and reliable transport for branch needs.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising a team of five or more.
• Experience running a busy yard within a builders' merchant or similar environment.
• Good knowledge of building materials and merchant operations.
• Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
• Confident organising workloads, setting priorities and leading by example.
• Reliable, organised and able to remain calm in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead yard team of five or more colleagues.
• Oversee day-to-day operation of a busy builders' merchant yard.
• Coordinate goods in, goods out, customer collections and deliveries efficiently.
• Ensure stock is stored safely, accurately and presented to a high standard.
• Operate a forklift and support the team with loading and unloading when required.
• Maintain housekeeping and ensure the yard is safe, organised and compliant at all times.
• Carry out and monitor daily health and safety checks, ensuring PPE and safe practices are followed.
• Manage forklift inspections and report maintenance issues promptly.
• Work closely with the Branch Manager and wider team to deliver excellent customer service.
• Support stock control, inventory accuracy and continuous improvement across the yard.

What you’ll be doing

• Leading, motivating and developing a yard team of five or more colleagues.
• Overseeing the day-to-day operation of a busy builders' merchant yard.
• Coordinating goods in, goods out, customer collections and deliveries efficiently.
• Ensuring stock is stored safely, accurately and presented to a high standard.
• Operating a forklift and supporting the team with loading and unloading when required.
• Maintaining excellent housekeeping and ensuring the yard is safe, organised and compliant at all times.
• Carrying out and monitoring daily health and safety checks, ensuring PPE and safe working practices are consistently followed.
• Managing forklift inspections and reporting maintenance issues promptly.
• Working closely with the Branch Manager and wider branch team to deliver excellent customer service.
• Supporting stock control, inventory accuracy and continuous improvement across the yard.

What we’re looking for

• Experience supervising or managing a team of five or more people.
• Proven experience running a busy yard within a builders' merchant or similar building products environment.
• Good knowledge of building materials and an understanding of merchant operations.
• Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, with a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
• Confident organising workloads, setting priorities and leading by example.
• A proactive, hands‑on approach with excellent communication skills.
• Reliable, organised and able to remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
• Due to the location of the branch, you will need your own reliable transport.

Hours: 7.30am–5pm Monday to Friday, 7am–12pm alternate Saturdays
