Job summary

Bradfords Building Supplies Ltd is hiring a Yard Assistant / Van Driver to join our branch team. You’ll help customers in the yard, assist with loading and unloading, and support deliveries with our van fleet.

This role combines hands-on customer service with on-the-road duties to ensure timely, accurate service. In addition to assisting in the yard, you’ll drive multi-drop deliveries, maintain stock accuracy, and keep the yard tidy and safe.

• Customer service experience in a retail/building merchant environment.
• Clean UK driving licence (category B) is essential.

We're looking for a Yard Assistant / Van Driver to join our team. This is a hands-on, customer-focused role that gives you the opportunity to get involved across the branch while helping us deliver a great experience for our customers.

This is a varied and fast-paced role where no two days are quite the same. You'll be an important part of the branch team, working across the yard and supporting our customers both in branch and out on the road.

As a Yard Assistant, you'll be one of the friendly faces our customers see when they visit us. You'll help customers find what they need, make sure they're served and loaded efficiently, and provide helpful advice and guidance along the way. You'll also play an active part in keeping the yard organised, stock accurate and the branch running safely and smoothly.

You'll be involved in receiving and checking deliveries, picking customer orders, loading and unloading vehicles, merchandising stock and keeping the yard clean, tidy and safe. You'll also have the opportunity to identify sales opportunities and pass leads to the sales team, helping us make the most of every customer interaction.

Alongside your yard responsibilities, you'll support the branch as a Van Driver, carrying out multi-drop deliveries to our customers.

You'll be the face of Bradfords when you're out on the road, so providing great customer service is just as important as making sure deliveries arrive on time and in full. You'll keep customers informed of delivery times, handle their products and property with care, and deal professionally with any changes or delays.

You'll also be responsible for making sure your vehicle is safe, secure and ready for business, carrying out the required checks and reporting any defects or issues. You'll follow road transport and traffic legislation and ensure loads are secured and handled safely throughout each delivery.

You'll also have a keen eye for new business. When you're out visiting customer sites, you'll be encouraged to identify potential leads and opportunities and share these with the Branch Manager or Sales Team.

Full training will be provided on the equipment and machinery you'll need to use, so we're looking for someone with the right attitude, willingness to learn and a genuine desire to do a great job.

We're looking for someone who enjoys being active, working as part of a team and interacting with customers. You'll be friendly, approachable and confident speaking with customers, with a natural focus on providing great service.

You'll need to be organised and reliable, with the ability to work at pace while maintaining high standards of safety and accuracy. A positive, can-do attitude is important, as is the flexibility to get involved wherever you're needed.

Afull UK driving licence is essential, along with the ability to safely move and handle loads in line with HSE guidance.

Experience within a builders' merchant, yard, warehouse, deliveries or a customer-facing environment would be useful, but it's not essential. We're more interested in your attitude, work ethic and willingness to learn.
