Job Description:

Overview & Responsibilities

The Workshop Technician is responsible for the dismantling, inspection, repair, and reassembly of compressors, turbines, turbochargers, gearboxes, and other rotating machinery and components. The role requires following Elliott's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies to ensure safety across the premises. The technician must interpret technical drawings and complete tasks according to engineering instructions, while maintaining the highest quality standards in every job.

Job Responsibilities:

Dismantle, inspect, repair, and reassemble rotating machinery (compressors, turbines, gearboxes, etc.).

Independently operate machine shop equipment (lathes, vertical borers, surface grinders) for both conventional and CNC machining.

Set up machines with correct tooling for desired machining activities.

Manufacture component parts for assembly/disassembly of equipment as per engineering instructions.

Ensure work output meets quality standards, work instructions, and specifications.

Complete all required records, including work instructions and procedures.

Steam clean or shot-blast equipment as necessary to prepare for work.

Return all tooling and lifting equipment to proper storage after use.

Report any defects or issues affecting the safe use of tools or equipment.

Perform general workshop activities, including housekeeping, and follow Workshop Supervisor instructions.

Conduct quality checks such as concentricity, alignment, and dynamic balancing.

Inspect and assemble sub-contract machined components to final specifications.

Maintain and operate machine tools and equipment, ensuring proper functioning.

Undertake training for safe operation of mobile equipment (e.g., overhead cranes, forklifts).

Support Field Service personnel both on-site and in the workshop as needed.

Assemble/disassemble turbomachinery rotors and perform impeller overspeed tests.

Fit blades on turbine rotors and perform low-speed rotor balancing.

Sharpen and maintain machine tooling, and properly dispose of waste materials.

Perform additional tasks within reasonable limitations.

Gain experience working in a specialist, non-batch service business.

Candidate Profile / Skills Required:

Proven experience in a mechanical manufacturing/repair environment (ideally 3-5 years of industry experience).

Engineering qualification or evidence of apprenticeship is preferred.

Ability to interpret detailed instructions, engineering drawings, and technical reports.

Strong engineering skills with experience in conventional machining (turning, boring, drilling).

Ability to work independently and offer innovative repair solutions for turbomachinery.
