Job summary

Rushlift in Dewsbury is seeking an experienced Workshop Supervisor to lead our workshop operations. You will manage engineers and apprentices, plan workloads, and ensure safety, quality, and uptime of equipment.

You will service, diagnose, and repair material handling equipment (forklifts, MEWPs), use diagnostic tools, provide technical guidance, and deliver outstanding service to customers. A UK driving licence and engineering qualifications are required.

Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining, servicing, or repairing material handling equipment (forklifts, powered access, plant machinery).
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic fault-finding skills.
  • GCSEs in English & Maths and a Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Leadership/mentoring experience and ability to coach engineers.
  • Commitment to health and safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the workshop, managing engineers and apprentices.
  • Plan and allocate work based on priority, capability, and resource availability.
  • Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs to equipment to high standards.
  • Enforce health and safety requirements and maintain a clean, safe workshop.
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance; maintain job documentation and reports.
  • Coordinate with customers, field teams, parts, and workshop administrator to deliver service.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Workshop Supervisor to lead our workshop operation in Dewsbury. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineering professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with people leadership, ensuring equipment is maintained to the highest standards while delivering exceptional service to customers.

In this role, you will oversee the day-to-day running of the workshop, managing engineers and apprentices, coordinating workloads, maintaining safety and quality standards, and ensuring maximum equipment uptime for our customers.

We’re looking for someone who will:
  • Servicing, maintenance, and repair of materials handling equipment including forklifts, side loaders, reach trucks and MEWP's.
  • Perform diagnostic and fault-finding using manuals, software or diagnostic tools.
  • Conduct repairs to engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, transmissions and braking systems
  • Provide a best-in-class customer experience for our business customers.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the workshop engineers and apprentices.
  • Plan and allocate work effectively based on priority, engineer capability, and resource availability.
  • Provide guidance, support, and technical assistance when needed.
  • Manage job scheduling, workflow and resource allocation.
  • Ensure all planned maintenance and repair work is completed efficiently and to agreed timescales.
  • Prioritise urgent repairs to minimise equipment downtime.
  • Enforce strict adherence to health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment.
  • Monitor work standards and ensure repairs meet manufacturer and company requirements.
  • Conduct final quality checks before equipment is returned to service or to the customer
  • Ensure accurate completion of service reports and job documentation
  • Report workshop performance and issues to the relevant manager.
  • Work closely with customers, field engineers, service teams, parts departments, and the Workshop Administrator to deliver outstanding service.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop engineers, identifying training needs and supporting career progression within the team.
What sets you apart:
  • GCSEs in English & Maths, Full UK Driving Licence
  • Specific Engineering qualifications or similar technical qualifications in MHE mechanics preferred
  • Several years' experience maintaining, servicing, or repairing material handling equipment, forklifts, powered access equipment, plant machinery, agricultural machinery, or similar equipment.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic fault-finding skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence using tablets, workshop systems, and digital service platforms.
  • A proactive approach to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
