Job summary

Attega Group Ltd in Bedford is seeking a Workshop Pump Engineer to join our engineering team. This hands-on, workshop-based role involves inspecting, fault-finding, stripping down, repairing, rebuilding and testing pumps, motors, fans and other rotating equipment.

The successful candidate will have at least 5 years' workshop experience and be able to support the wider team with technical knowledge, ensure high repair quality and contribute to improving workshop efficiency.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years' experience in a workshop-based role.
• Experience with pumps, motors, fans and rotating equipment.
• Knowledge of mechanical fault finding and diagnostics.
• Ability to read engineering drawings.
• Formal qualifications in Mechanical/Electrical/Electro-Mechanical Engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

• Strip, inspect, repair and rebuild pumps, electric motors, fans and rotating equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and identify failed or worn components.
• Assess incoming equipment and determine whether repair, rebuild or replacement is required.
• Identify and specify parts including bearings, seals, couplings, impellers, shafts, gaskets and electrical components.
• Rebuild equipment to a high standard, ensuring correct tolerances, alignment and assembly.
• Carry out workshop testing following repairs to ensure equipment is safe and functioning correctly.
• Produce accurate inspection, fault-finding and repair reports.
• Support the wider workshop team with pump and equipment assembly.
• Provide technical support to external engineers and internal teams when required.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment.
• Contribute to improving workshop efficiency, quality and repair processes.

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Workshop-Based Pump Engineer / Mechanical & Electrical Engineer to join a growing engineering team in Bedford.

This is a hands-on workshop position, ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys getting stuck into the technical side of the job. You ll be responsible for the inspection, fault-finding, strip-down, repair, rebuild and testing of pumps, motors, fans and other rotating equipment.

You’ll become a key technical presence within the workshop, helping maintain high standards of repair quality and supporting the wider engineering team with your knowledge and experience.

About You

We're looking for an experienced engineer with at least 5 years' experience in a similar workshop-based role.

You’ll ideally have strong experience working with:

• Pumps and pumping equipment
• Electric motors
• Fans and rotating equipment
• Bearings, seals, couplings, shafts and impellers
• Mechanical assemblies
• Mechanical fault finding
• Basic electrical diagnostics
• Strip-down and rebuild work
• Workshop testing and repair

Desirable Experience

Formal qualifications in Mechanical, Electrical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering would also be beneficial.

Experience with insulation and continuity testing, motor diagnostics, overhead cranes or forklift equipment would be an advantage.
