Position 1 Recruitment is working with an established engineering company in Norwich seeking an experienced Workshop Engineer to join the team.

The role involves inspecting pumps, dismantling and overhauling units, and performing precision machining and fabrication on a range of processing equipment. You will work closely with the Workshop Manager to deliver high-quality repairs and replacements on time.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience with pumps: dismantling, refurbishment and fault diagnosis.
  • Strong mechanical engineering, fitting and machining abilities.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and testing.
  • Able to read engineering drawings and specs.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect incoming pumps and related machinery, identify faults and determine repair or replacement solution.
  • Dismantle, inspect and overhaul pumps, carrying out mechanical repairs and fault-finding.
  • Rebuild completed units and conduct testing to ensure safe operation.
  • Produce, modify and restore mechanical components to meet engineering requirements.
  • Carry out machining and fabrication using centre lathes, milling machines, pillar/bench drills, grinders and drilling equipment.
  • Collaborate with Workshop Manager to develop components for repair and replacement projects.

Job description

Position 1 Recruitment are working with an established engineering company in Norwich who are looking for an experienced Workshop Engineer to join their team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect incoming pumps and related machinery, identifying faults and determining the appropriate repair or replacement solution.
  • Dismantle, inspect and overhaul pumps, carrying out mechanical repairs and fault-finding as required.
  • Rebuild completed units and conduct operational testing to confirm they are performing safely and correctly.
  • Produce, modify and restore mechanical components to meet engineering requirements.
  • Carry out machining and fabrication tasks using equipment such as centre lathes, milling machines, pillar/bench drills, grinders and specialist drilling equipment.
  • Work alongside the Workshop Manager to develop and produce components for repair and replacement projects.
Skills & Experience
  • Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience.
  • Previous experience working with pumps, including dismantling, refurbishment, repair and fault diagnosis.
  • Strong mechanical engineering, fitting and machining abilities.
  • A basic understanding of electrical systems and testing procedures.
  • Confident interpreting engineering drawings, measurements and technical specifications.
  • Good IT skills with a sound level of numeracy.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A hands-on, methodical approach with strong attention to quality and detail.
