Workshop Manager – Automotive Build & Restoration

£45,000 Bonus Flexible Working Hands-On Leadership Role

Are you an experienced automotive professional who knows what exceptional looks like?

We’re looking for a Workshop Manager to join a growing specialist automotive business, overseeing a small team within a hands-on mechanical build and restoration environment.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who combines strong mechanical expertise with proven team leadership, and who takes real pride in delivering outstanding workmanship.

The Role

As Workshop Manager, you’ll take ownership of the day-to-day running of the mechanical workshop, leading a small team and ensuring vehicles are completed on time, to specification and to an exceptional standard.

You’ll be the driving force behind workshop output — setting priorities, allocating work, solving problems and making sure the team stays on track without compromising quality.

What you’ll be doing

• Lead, motivate and develop a small team of mechanics.
• Plan daily workshop activity and manage vehicle build schedules.
• Review job specifications and ensure work is completed to the required scope and standard.
• Run clear start-of-shift briefings, setting priorities and expected outputs.
• Monitor progress throughout the day and reallocate work where required.
• Carry out regular quality checks and ensure defects or rework are dealt with promptly.
• Balance quality, productivity and delivery deadlines.
• Order parts and materials to ensure work is not held up.
• Work closely with purchasing, sales and senior management.
• Maintain a safe, organised and efficient workshop environment.
• Provide clear progress updates to senior management.
• Coach and support the team while setting and maintaining high standards.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with a strong mechanical automotive build background, ideally gained within a specialist, restoration, classic vehicle, performance or premium automotive environment.

You’ll ideally have:

• Strong hands-on mechanical experience.
• Previous experience leading or supervising a workshop team.
• Experience in automotive builds, restoration or specialist vehicle work.
• A genuine eye for quality, detail and finish.
• The ability to interpret job specifications and production plans.
• Strong practical problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• The confidence to lead from the front and keep a team accountable.
• Experience sourcing and ordering automotive parts.
• A good understanding of workshop health & safety.
