Job summary

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service is seeking a Workshop Manager to oversee the transport workshop, the equipment workshop and a team of technicians, ensuring efficient planning and progression of work while meeting service needs.

The role reports to the Head of Technical Services and requires a strong commitment to Safety, Integrity, Inclusivity and Learning as core values in day-to-day operations.

Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in an engineering related subject or substantial work experience relevant to the role.
• Proven leadership experience in managing workshop teams.
• Experience planning and scheduling both planned and unplanned work.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations in workshop environments.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and service delivery.

Workshop Manager

£46,142 – £49,282 per annum, plus an On-Call Allowance of £7,750) + benefits (pay award pending)

About the role

We are seeking to fill an upcoming vacancy for the role of Workshop Manager.

Reporting directly to the Head of Technical Services you will be responsible for the efficient management of the transport workshop, the operational equipment workshop and a team of technicians, while working closely with other departments.

This role provides guidance and support for all inspection and maintenance activities carried out on fire appliances, vehicle fleet, marine assets, operational equipment and ancillary equipment. A key aspect of the role is the efficient planning and progression of scheduled work whilst maintaining an effective response to un-scheduled work to support service delivery.

• Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, always promoting safe working practices.

We are seeking a candidate who has demonstrable experience of:

• Leading, motivating and managing teams through effective communication and leadership.
• Planning, coordinating and monitoring operational workloads within a workshop, vehicle, equipment or stores environment.
• Working in a vehicle, equipment or stores environment.
• Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations related to vehicle and equipment maintenance.
• Identifying and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency, performance and service delivery.
• Developing team capability through coaching, mentoring and performance management
• Degree (or equivalent) in an engineering related subject or substantial work experience relevant to the role.
