Job summary

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service in Gateshead is seeking a Workshop Manager to lead the transport and equipment workshops and a team of technicians, ensuring efficient planning and delivery of all scheduled and unscheduled work.

Reporting to the Head of Technical Services, the post holder will champion TWFRS values, drive continuous improvement, and ensure health and safety compliance while supporting service delivery and cross‑department collaboration.

Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in an engineering related subject or substantial work experience relevant to the role.
• Experience leading and developing teams, planning and coordinating workshop activities.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations in vehicle/equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop teams of technicians, providing guidance and technical expertise.
• Plan, implement, control and record schedules for all planned and unplanned work.
• Mentor staff and foster continuous improvement and safety culture.
• Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations and promote safe working practices.
