Job summary

Brewers Decorator Centres in Eastbourne is seeking a proactive Workshop Maintenance Operative to join our Premises team at Albany House. You will manage stock levels of shopfitting materials, maintain safe storage areas, and support loading and distribution of equipment across our branches.

The role includes repairs, refurbishments, redecoration, and shopfitting installations, working with the Merchandising Manager to ensure equipment is well maintained and materials are available for branch

Qualifications

  • Strong background with power and hand tools for shopfitting and storage shelving work.
  • Experience working in a busy branch during trading hours.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to plan workload independently and to deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Keep all storage areas clean and tidy.
  • Assist in loading/unloading Company vehicles and putting away materials.
  • Ensure equipment dispatched to branches is well maintained and in good decorative order.
  • Order shopfitting components and monitor stock levels.
  • Check and issue materials moving into/out of stock.
  • Unload and load vehicles safely and within legal limits.
  • Vocational driving, regular travelling and occasional overnight stays may be required.

We have an excellent opportunity for a proactive and organised Workshop Maintenance Operative to join our Premises team based at our Head Office - Albany House in central Eastbourne. This is a key role supporting our network of over 280 branches nationwide by providing essential support with merchandising materials and necessary shop fittings and equipment required for all branches.

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing stock levels of shopfitting and merchandising materials, maintaining safe and organised storage areas, and supporting the loading, unloading, and distribution of equipment. You will also carry out repairs, refurbishments, redecoration projects, and shopfitting installations at branches and company sites. Working closely with the Merchandising Manager and Internal Contracts team, you will help ensure equipment is well maintained, stock is effectively controlled, and materials are available for branch openings and refurbishment projects.

This varied, hands‑on role requires strong practical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Experience in shopfitting, maintenance, shelving, racking, or a similar trade environment would be beneficial.

As a Workshop Maintenance Operative, Some Responsibilities Include
  • Keeping all storage areas clean and tidy
  • Assisting in the loading and unloading of Company vehicles and the putting away of materials
  • Ensure that all equipment despatched to branches is in the best possible state of repair and decorative order to preserve the image of quality and style of the Company
  • Ordering of shopfitting components and monitoring stock level

Who We Are Looking For To Join Our Team
  • A strong background and experience in power and hand tools necessary to undertake shopfitting and storage shelving alterations and install merchandising equipment
  • Experience working in branch during trading hours
  • Exceptional organisational skills with the confidence to plan and organise your workload effectively and accurately, at times working on your own initiative and to deadlines
  • Accuracy with an excellent eye for detail and ability to produce work to a high standard
  • Initiative to make decisions and problem solve daily.
  • Confident communicator at all levels, able to demonstrate excellent people skills.
  • Full and clean driving licence
  • MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platforms), SEMA registration and Forklift licence would be desirable, but not essential.
