JTL Medway training centre is seeking a skilled Workshop Instructor to maintain electrical/plumbing workshops and support delivery of training. You will ensure tools and resources are safe and ready for practical learning, while collaborating with Tutors and staff to sustain high-quality workshop activity.
The role also involves coaching apprentices, delivering elements of short courses, and providing prep for industry assessments such as AM2S.
Location: JTL Medway training centre
Working pattern/hours: Full time & permanent. Normal working hours are 35 per week, Monday - Friday, 09:00 - 17:00.
Salary: Up to £37,075 depending on skills and experience.
Location Specific Technical Allowance: Some employees living and working within the London areas may also be eligible to receive a Location Specific Technical Allowance (£2,000 - £7,000 per annum) in line with our current policy.
JTL is a national apprenticeship provider specialising in the electrical and plumbing sectors, supporting thousands of apprentices and working with employers across England and Wales. We are proud to be an Ofsted 'Good' provider and a registered charity, reinvesting in our apprentices, staff and training facilities.
Our apprentices are at the heart of everything we do. We work closely with employers to develop the next generation of skilled tradespeople, providing high-quality training, support and guidance throughout the apprenticeship journey.
This is a varied, hands-on opportunity for an experienced electrical professional who wants to use their technical knowledge and practical skills to support the development of the next generation.
As a Workshop Instructor, you will play an important role in supporting the effective delivery of training within JTL's centres. You will help ensure electrical and/or plumbing workshops, tools, equipment and resources are safe, well maintained and ready for practical learning, while working closely with Tutors and other delivery colleagues to support high-quality workshop activity.
Alongside your workshop responsibilities, you will support and, where appropriately qualified and competent, contribute to apprenticeship training, industry short courses and assessment preparation. This may include practical demonstrations, one-to-one and group coaching, technical training and preparation for industry assessments such as AM2S. All delivery follows JTL's standardised curriculum, lesson plans, schemes of work and learning resources.
This role would suit someone who enjoys sharing their trade knowledge, helping others develop practical skills and working in a training environment, but who may not necessarily be looking for a full-time Tutor role.
You will:
We are looking for an experienced electrician who is passionate about developing others and helping them succeed.
You do not need to hold all of the desirable teaching and assessment qualifications before joining JTL. We are particularly interested in candidates with strong occupational competence, practical skills and an enthusiasm for helping others learn and develop. The approved JD treats these teaching, assessment and additional technical qualifications as desirable rather than essential.
As part of our team, you’ll play a key role in supporting apprentices and learners to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed for successful careers within the electrical industry, working in an organisation that values quality, professional standards and continuous improvement.
JTL is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all its employees to share this commitment in conjunction with the requirements of the Prevent Duty and the positive promotion of modern British values.
We are an equal opportunities employer and are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and supported.
