Job summary

Orion Electrotech Ltd in Reading is seeking a skilled Wireman for a permanent joiner role within a high‑reliability electronics manufacturing environment.

You will build cable and wire harnesses from wiring diagrams, measure and cut to tight tolerances, and hand‑crimp miniature contacts using specified tools. Attention to quality, safety, and traceability is essential to support long‑term customer partnerships.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years experience with cables and wire harnesses.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and harness drawings.
• IPC/WHMA-A-620 training or certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Build cable and wire harnesses from diagrams and job cards.
• Measure, cut and strip wire accurately from 20 AWG to 30–32 AWG.
• Hand-crimp miniature contacts with correct tools.
• Insert contacts into housings and check latching.
• Inspect crimps under magnification and perform pull tests as required.
• Fit heat shrink, sleeving, labels, cable ties and route harnesses on boards.
• Carry out basic continuity checks and correct faults.
• Complete job cards, sign-offs and batch traceability records.

We’re working with a well-established business looking to add a Wireman to their team on aPerm basis. What's involved?

• Build cable and wire harnesses from wiring diagrams, harness drawings, connector pin-outs, and job
  cards.
• Measure, cut and strip wire accurately, from 20 AWG down to 30–32 AWG, without nicking strands.
• Hand-crimp miniature contacts with the correct ratchet tool and die (e.g. JST SH, GH, PH and JWPF, Molex C-Grid III and Nano-Fit, Harwin M20).
• Insert contacts into housings in the right cavity and check they latch.
• Inspect your own crimps under magnification and carry out pull tests where required.
• Fit heat shrink, sleeving, labels, cable ties and lacing, and route and dress harnesses on boards.
• Carry out basic continuity checks and correct any faults found.
• Complete job cards, sign-offs and batch traceability records accurately.
• Raise drawing errors, non-conforming parts or tooling problems with your supervisor straight away.
• Keep your bench, tools and ESD controls in good order.

Key Requirements for the Wireman role:

• 2 years minimum experience with cables and wire harnesses
• IPC/WHMA-A-620 trained or certified
• You can read and work from wiring diagrams, harness drawings, and connector pin-out tables.
